Mac Arthur Robinson

1942 - 2014

MAC ROBINSON Mac Arthur Robinson passed away July 11, 2014, at home in Kanab, Utah. Mac spent over three months struggling with brain cancer, which was caused by the nuclear atmospheric testing in the 1950's. He has joined his brother, Earl, who died in 2013, and who also was a "downwinder." Mac was born April 13, 1942, in Circleville, Utah, and lived there until 1954. In 1954, the family moved to Henderson, and Mac lived there until 1976. He married Maxine Johnson in 1961. They had three children, Tracy Elizabeth (Craig) Miller, Mac Arthur (Julie) Robinson Jr. and Todd Andrew (Debbie) Robinson. They were divorced in 1973. In 1979, Mac married Micky Holcomb in Overland Park, Kan. They had one daughter, Peggy O'Neil (Butch) Malec. He worked for the Clark County Nevada Sheriff's Department and served an apprenticeship with Local 525 of the Plumbers & Pipefitter's Union. He represented the state of Nevada at the national apprenticeship contest at Perdue University. He was a 1977 graduate of the Plumbers and Pipefitter's apprenticeship training program. In 1977, Mac went to work for Hercules Aerospace/ATK (Alliant Techsystems). He worked at the Bacchus Works in Salt Lake City. He and Micky went to Rocket Center, W.Va. in 1988. In 2004, they came back from the east and Mac worked for ATK at Clearfield, Utah. He retired in 2009 to Kanab. During his time with Hercules/ATK, he served as a maintenance and construction supervisor, operations supervisor and analyst. Mac served in many positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including a senior mission with his wonderful wife, Micky, February 2012-June 2013. He always loved to do projects, whether for us or for others, that involved power tools and four-wheeling around Kanab. Over the years, Mac has made and kept many friends. Even though he moved away, that didn't mean you never heard from him again. As one friend said, "He collected people." He was always generous and quick to say, "Come and stay with us." For over three months, he has had a wonderful time reconnecting with family and friends. So many have been here as visitors and as caregivers. The most important thing he's done is to get to know the Savior and to realize how important his family and friends really are. Mac is survived by his wife; his children; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 26, at the Kanab South LDS Chapel. Viewings are 7-8 p.m. Friday, July 25, at Mosdell Mortuary and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 26, at the church.
