DR. PAUL WOLFSON Dr. Paul Martin Wolfson, physician and educator, died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007, in Las Vegas. The cause of death was progressive supranuclear palsy. He was 63. Paul was born in Atlantic City, N.J., Dec. 20, 1943. He graduated from Muhlenberg College and the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. He served his internship and residency at the Cleveland Clinic and his cardiology fellowship at the University of Iowa. In 1974, he joined the Department of Medicine at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, now known as Midwestern University, where he taught for 27 years, training thousands of students, residents, fellows and diagnostic technicians. He became director of cardiology in 1980 and a professor of medicine in 1983, posts he held until his retirement in 2002. Paul was one of the early osteopathic physicians to formally train in allopathic programs for internal medicine and cardiology. He was among the first osteopathic physicians to achieve fellowship in the American College of Cardiology. Dr. Wolfson authored more than 75 scholarly publications and abstracts and was a principal investigator for over 100 clinical research studies of investigational new drugs during the 1980's and 1990's. He was a brilliant educator and an expert diagnostician, beloved by his students and patients. Paul is survived by his loving wife, Marlene (Rosenberg), who was at his side throughout the course of his illness. He is also survived by his children, Dr. Jack (Dr. Heather) Wolfson of Scottsdale, Ariz., Dr. Eric (Hillary) Wolfson of Las Vegas, and Dana (Eric) Berggren also of Las Vegas; grandchildren, Max, Courtney, Ryan and Noah Wolfson and Maura Berggren; and by his brother, Howard (Linda) Wolfson. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Jack and Sadie Wolfson; and his in-laws, Morrie and Mildred Rosenberg. Paul was deeply devoted to his extended family, Trudi Schack (Max) Esses, Sherwin (Jane) Rosenberg, and all of his nephews and nieces. His closest friends and colleagues included Dr. Larry Haspel, Dr. David Braunstein and Sarah Dunlap Hamann. Dr. Paul Wolfson, of Las Vegas, and Scottsdale, Ariz., formerly of Northbrook, Ill., was laid to rest at Shalom Memorial Park in Arlington Heights, Ill.
