Rex Funkhouser Obituary

REX FUNKHOUSER Rex Funkhouser, 77, passed away May 18, 2008, at his Spokane, Wash. home. He was born Nov. 17, 1930, in Whiting, Iowa. Rex lived in Las Vegas for over 25 years and worked at the Nevada Test Site. He moved to Spokane a few years ago with his wife, Patricia to be near his young grandchildren, David King, 10 and Riley King, 7. He had four years of service in the U.S. Marine Corps before he was 20 years old. One year was served in China and three months in Korea where he fought in the Chosin Reservoir Battle of Hill 1282, now considered to be unmatched in the annals of small unit warfare. Rex was wounded in the battle and spent three months in Japanese hospitals recovering. He later joined the U.S. Air Force Reserve and retired as a master sergeant. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed and always loved by his wife, Patricia; daughters, Terry Goldman of Oregon, Cindy Funkhouser of Las Vegas, Lori Funkhouser-King of Spokane Wash., and Lisa Funkhouser-O'Brien of Spokane Wash.; grandsons, Jason Osgerby of Las Vegas, David and Riley; sisters, Vivian Wood, Carol Cole and Connie Perrin. He was our rock in life and continues to be so even now. No Las Vegas services are planned. Rex will be taken back to Iowa and laid to rest next to his parents, Lawrence and Mildred Funkhouser.
