Dear friends--Mrs. Donaldson (Evelyn), Andrew and Wendy,
First of all please accept my condolences on the death of Mr. Donaldson (Andy) and secondly please accept my sincere apology for not seeing the obituary in the newspaper or I surely would have been at the service. I have wonderful memories of growing up with your family and with the Havens family. The endless summer picnics in your backyard and the wonderful chocolate chip cookies. Mr. Donaldson was warm and friendly, funny and kind. He was a wonderful father and husband. Growing up I thought of your family as part of my extended family because my grandparents lived so far away. I am sorry that I have lost touch with you since my return to Dayton 24 years ago, but the fond memories from growing up years will always be in my heart. I remember football games with Wendy and jumping rope and chasing fire engines with Andrew. That time seems a life-time ago. I learned of Mr. Donaldson's death just today when I was talking to Linda, the girl who was my next-door neighbor on Atwood Place. She is very good about keeping up with obituraries. She said she was sorry that she didn't call me when she saw it--she assumed that I knew. Like Jonathan, I loved the handlebar mustach. He was a kind and wonderful man who will truely be missed. I am glad the my dad and I visited with you a few years ago. It sure was great to see you. I called dad to give him the news. We both want you to know that our thoughts and prayers are with you. Much love, Nate and Carol(Little)Adams

When I think of Andy Donaldson, I have so many varied and wonderful memories. He was a fighter, a Marine, who fought and was wounded in one of the fiercest battles of WWII, Iwo Jima. Yet, he was a gentle man who was kind, friendly, and a loving husband and father. Moreover, he was a trained engineer who applied his considerable talent at a crucial time in our nation's aviation history. His engineering talent was also evident in the many woodworking projects he undertook. No one else in the community had lit Christmas signs with "greetings from the Donaldsons!" But in the end, I remember him as a friend and father-figure whom I always admired. With his ever-present smile and distinctive handlebar mustache, he was truly one of a kind. He will be missed but not forgotten.

I became friends with Andrew, Jr. in high school and have remained good friends ever since. Wendy was a year or two behind me in high school, but I remember her as a lovely, vibrant young lady. Just knowing both Andy, Jr. and Wendy as I do I have no doubt that Andy, Sr. must have been one terrific man, a wonderful husband, and a real stand-up father. May the family embrace all your memories of Andy, Sr. with deep pride. I pray that God will bless you all at this grievous time, and comfort you in your loss. God bless you all.

Dear Aunt Ev, Andrew, Wendy, Julie & Ashley,
Words don't come easy to express my heart felt feelings to each of you. But I pray that God will hold your hands as you walk this new journey, with the precious memories of a HUSBAND, FATHER and GRANDFATHER who loved and cherished you in his own special way.
I will cherish my memories of Uncle Andy always.
I love you,
Cathy
