Lisa E. Babbitt obituary, 1968-2019, San Carlos, California

Lisa Babbitt Obituary

Lisa E. Babbitt, 50, of San Carlos, California, formerly of Memphis, Michigan entered eternal life on March 6, 2019. She was born November 20, 1968 in Mt. Clemens to Harvey and Eleanor Babbitt. Lisa graduated from Memphis High School in the class of 1986. She continued her education at Oakland University and then Michigan State University, graduating with a degree in Graphic Design. Lisa became a project manager with Cranbrook Educational Community and her artistic illustrations were on display at the Exploratorium Museum in San Francisco. She also kept a studio at the Peninsula Museum of Art in Burlingame, California. Lisa’s dedication to her art was apparent and that same dedication drifted outside of work to her training for marathon running and her enthusiasm for boxing. She is survived by her loving family: husband, Jeffery Bass; mother, Eleanor Babbitt; sister, Susan (David) Glodich; nephew, Kegan, and her beloved poodle, Alvy. She was preceded in death by her father, Harvey in 1997. A time to gather with the family will be held Wednesday, March 13, 2019 from 5:30-7 p.m. in the Kammeraad-Merchant Funeral Home, Memphis. A memorial service will be held that evening at 7 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Peninsula Museum of Art, 1777 California Drive, Burlingame, CA, 94010. I'm shocked and saddened to learn of Lisa's passing. What a wonderful person, so very kind and thoughtful with a great sense of humor and laugh to match. Her pure, unbridled creativity was always a delight to encounter. On a 2018 visit to her studio we discussed her abstract paintings of musical works. Remarkable!
My sympathies to Jeff, Lisa's family and friends for this great loss.

I will miss you at home. Never guessed that you were unhappy or suffering emotional pain. Wish I could have helped. You were always sweet and friendly. Thank you for being a kind neighbor. If Alvy and Chibi were less protective, they could have had fun playing while we talked! Wishing you peace and rest, Lisa.with sincere condolences to Jeff, your mom, and your sister. Hugs, Judy

On behalf of NAMI San Mateo County, I was saddened to hear your news. It was a delight to work with her on some special projects she did for our affiliate, as well as publish her delightful Mellonfolly cartoon strip. We miss her charming presence.

What a lovely woman! May you rest in eternal peace and well deserved wellness, Lisa!
You were such a kind and generous person....and amazing artist who volunteered over several years to help NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) San Mateo County. Early on, with the redesign of NAMI information brochure that desperately needed updating and as time went by with heartfelt and clever 'cartoons' for the NAMI newsletter. You will be greatly missed and always remembered.
Condolences to her family and all who will miss her!

I met Lisa in her studio through my work with the Peninsula Museum of Art in Burlingame. I enjoyed getting to know her a bit, and having the opportunity to appreciate her thoughtful, lovely and creative artwork in person. We were both born in 1968 and her subjects always resonated with me. I am tremendously sorry for your loss.

Ahhh, this is so sad. I'm so very sorry to hear that Lisa is no longer with us. What a delightful woman. Lisa drew cartoons that we published in the NAMI San Mateo County monthly newsletter. It's been a couple of years now I think since the last one, but they were charming drawings and it was a pleasure and an honor to publish her art. It was a pleasure to work with her to get the cartoons and how to make them work in the newsletter. I visited the art gallery in Burlingame for a show once and was so pleasantly surprised to meet her in her studio there. What a treat that was! So much delight, pleasant, charm in this message...and that was what Lisa was. Ah we've lost a good one. My condolences to her family and all others who knew her. Thank you Lisa for all you shared with us.

So saddened by the news of Lisa..I am forever grateful for our friendship over the years. We had worked at Cranbrook many moons ago - It's been close to 20 yrs. since we'd last seen each other, but have kept in touch through Facebook over the years. I'll always treasure the memories of her kindness, her ability to make me smile and laugh, and her shear talent showcased through her artwork. Please accept our most heartfelt condolences, Jeff, and to the Babbitt family...may Lisa's soul rest in eternal peace. She will be forever in our hearts.

Sincerely,
Joy & Gary Vandekerkhove

I am so deeply saddened to hear about Lisa. I met her when she hired me for a Graphic Design position at Cranbrook Institute of Science many years ago. Her talent and humor was always evident in her work. Her creation of the character and stuffed animal "Max the Museum Mutt" was a favorite of my then young daughter. I will always be grateful for knowing her and the opportunity to work alongside her. Dear Jeff, I am so very sorry for her loss. She made this world a better place for her being in it. To Lisa's family, we will lift you all up in prayer.

Dear Jeff, it's been more than a decade since we had the joy of working together with you two at CIS but we've never forgotten you and Lisa. Her smile and art work lit up the marble hallways to make our work days be more cheerful. Hope 'going west' made a wonderful life for both of you.

Lisa and I met when we both went in blind our freshman year at Oakland and became roommates, and then close friends. So many great memories in college and beyond, her smile could light up a room and her hearty laugh was so contagious. So compassionate and talented, I'm so sorry to see she's gone, but I know she is dancing barefoot with the angels now. My prayer is that you find comfort in knowing that there are many many people praying you through this sad time, she is no longer struggling. I will always have great memories. Love you Leese!!

Lisa, I salute you! What a beautiful, loving, and insight-filled person you were. Your artwork rang true on a deep level, similar to the way the jazz that you loved triggers a deep response. You gave me much encouragement and support during these past 6 years, and for that I am truly grateful. My heart goes out to Jeff, your whole family, and your friends who were lucky enough to have you in their lives for many, many years.

Lisa was always a kind person. Her smile would make any situation brighter. She was always so kind to me in high school and that made a huge difference for me. She will be missed, but at least Heaven gained a very special angel. Rest peacefully Lisa, may the LORD embrace you.
