Alexander Carter Obituary

Alexander Zonnie Carter, Jr. -GRAY - Alexander Zonnie "Butch" Carter, Jr., 54, of Altman Road, died Saturday, July 13, 2002, in a local hospital after an extended illness. Memorial services will be held at 11A.M. Wednesday, July 17, 2002, at Magnolia Baptist Church in Macon. Rev. Sidney Lattimore will officiate. -Mr. Carter was born in Passaic, New Jersey, and had lived in Gray for the past five years. He was the son of the late Alexander Zonnie Carter, Sr. Mr. Carter was a graduate of Eastside High School in Paterson, New Jersey and earned Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Winston-Salem State University. He was a member of Pi Gamma Mu, the International Honor Society in Social Science and was also a member of the Rho Chi Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta Honor Society in the Field of History. Mr. Carter was retired as a Control Operator with the Macon-Bibb County Water Authority. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sondra Carter. -Mr. Carter is survived by his wife, Ann Carter of Gray; daughters, Nyawi and Crystal Carter, both of Gray; sons, Dwayne Anderson of Macon and Myles Carter of Gray; his mother, Dr. Ruth River Hayes of Gray; a sister, Valerie Wilson of Paterson, New Jersey; a nephew, Naeem Carter of Gray; a niece, Aisha Holly Wilson of Paterson, New Jersey; and numerous aunts, uncles and nieces. -The family has requested in lieu of flowers that contributions be made to Women of Color Cancer Survivors, c/o Dr. Shirley Black, Post Office Box 147, Gray, GA 31032. -Bridges Funeral Home in Gray has charge of arrangements.
