Benjamin Johnston Obituary
November 28, 1951 - June 18, 2025
Macon, Georgia - Dr. Benjamin Mays Johnston Sr, transitioned to his spiritual home in the Kingdom of God on June 18, 2025.
A native of Macon, he was born on November 28, 1951 to the late Dr. George A. Johnston, Sr., and the late Ruth Bronson Johnston.
He was a graduate of Peter G. Appling High Scholl at the age of 16. He graduated cum laude from Fisk University in 1972 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology.
He graduated with honors and received his Medical Degree from Meharry Medical College in 1976.
He completed the Wayne State University Affiliated Program of Internal Medicine at Harper Hospital in Detroit, Michigan in 1976.
He completed his residency in Internal Medicine, in 1979 at Wayne State University Harper Hospital.
In 1981, he received a fellowship in Gastroenterology from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.
He returned to Macon, Georgia and joined his father's medical practice alongside his brother Dr. George A. Johnston, Jr. The three would practice medicine in the same building. Dr. Johnston practiced Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine in Macon for over 30 years.
After the passing of his father and brother, Dr. Johnston wanted a change of pace and decided to retire from private practice and transitioned into Integrative and Functional Medicine. Since 2013, he has been an attending physician at Progressive Medical Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
Dr. Johnston was known for being a hard-working and dedicated physician.
He performed over 30,000 Endoscopic Procedures throughout his career.
Dr. Johnston is survived by many loving family members, including his wife of 46 years, Carolyn Brice Johnston; sons, Benjamin Johnston Jr. and Bryan Christopher Johnston; sisters Patricia Johnston Bradley and Clarinda Johnston Ramsey; sister-in-law Eliza O'Neal Johnston; nieces Gina Raquel Bradley and Georgina (Gokhan) Yildirim; George A. (Flavie) Johnston III and Calvin Alexander Ramsey Jr.; great-nieces Amari Denae Bradley, Laura Eliza Johnston, and Nadya - Nur Yildirim; great-nephew George A. Johnston IV; great-great-niece Anahla Sanae Rowzee, and a host of other nieces and nephews through his wife, who will carry on his legacy of faith and love.
Visitation with the family will be held from 6:30-8:00 P.M. Friday, June 27, 2025 at Jones Brothers Mortuary.
A Memorial Service will be held at Lizzie Chapel Baptist Church on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at 12 P.M. where we will gather to honor his memory.

Dr. G.A. Johnston Sr. delivered my siblings and me, he was my mother's Dr. And she loved him and his wife dearly because he and his wife were so very kind and good to her. They are a family of very humble people. G.A. Johnston Jr. delivered one of my children. My mother, Mary Webb Pless also knew Dr. Benjamin Johnston and spoke very highly of him as well.

It is with profound sadness that I write this tribute to Dr. Johnston. He was a remarkable and godly man who brought so much compassion and kindness into my life and the lives of others. Dr. Johnston was not merely a colleague-he was a cherished friend and an honorary uncle to my sons.
I had the privilege of collaborating closely with him for the past nine years. His humble and generous spirit, along with his steadfast professionalism, made a lasting impact on all who had the honor of knowing him. The memories I hold dear-his quiet chuckle, his dedication to working long hours for his patients without a word of complaint, leaving work notes on my desk with smiley faces, and the moments of encouragement he provided whenever I faced challenges-will forever remain in my heart.

May Dr. Johnston rest in eternal peace with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after the remarkable work he accomplished during his time on earth.

We left Appling HS and I hadn't seen him for long time and when we met again he hadn't changed. I always felt he would be successful in whatever he did.
