Roberta, GA- Cristóbal C. Valdés, also known as "Cloro" to those closest to him, 77, of Roberta, GA, transitioned into eternal life with God on July 10, 2014.
Cristóbal was born in 1936 in Remedios, Cuba to Francisco Valdés and Francisca Aurelia Perdomo de Valdés. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Arnaldo B. Valdés.
Chris graduated from Candler College in Havana, Cuba and earned his MBA at GA College in Milledgeville, GA.
"Maestro", as he was known to many, was a teacher and a baseball coach at La Progresiva Presbyterian School in Cardenas, Cuba. After moving to the states, he was employed at Boggs Academy, a Presbyterian school in Keysville, GA. Chris retired from Blue Bird Body Company after working in Export Sales, International Finance, and Risk Management.
Cristóbal had a passion for life, which left many who crossed his path with great memories, especially those he has temporarily left behind. Those who are here to carry on his memory are: his wife Nadine Carroll Valdés; a son, Jorge A. Valdés of Roberta, GA; a daughter, Maureen (Ben) Gamble, and a grandson, Isaac Gamble, all of Acworth, GA; a former wife, Martha G. Valdés, Fort Valley, GA; a sister, Disnarda Norniella and niece Edith Norniella, of Byron, GA; nephews Francisco "Pancho" (Beatriz) Valdés of Roberta, GA, and Joaquin (Bonnie) Norniella of Waukegan, Illinois.
In retirement, Chris surrounded himself with his family, which also includes his sister-in-law Melanie (Randy) Reynolds of Roberta, GA, brother-in-law Randy Carroll of Byron, GA, sister-in-law Romaine Munoz, and her husband and his close friend, Roberto Munoz of Miami, Florida; nephews and nieces, Thad Carroll, Aron Renfroe, Jessica Holliday, Becky Wilcox, Roberto "Tico" Munoz, Camille Munoz; grandnephews Caleb Renfroe and Noah Renfroe; and grandnieces Peyton Renfroe and Grace Wilcox.
Cloro loved baseball as a player, coach, and a fan. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing in the Florida Keys, and the art of "creative" story telling with his friends and family while entertaining a "spirited" beverage.
The family will receive friends at McLeighton Funeral Service in Roberta on Saturday, July 12th from 2-5 p.m., including a memorial service at 4 p.m. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made privately to Nadine Valdés to assist others in the fight against cancer in the name of Cristóbal Valdés.
McLeighton Funeral Service of Roberta is in charge of arrangements.
