Mr.Dillard you was such a inspiration to me and my mother. He always had a smile on his face you would never catch Mr.Dillard without a smile on his face not even when you were in trouble. You were the best principle I could ever have in elementary school and the best principle in the history of Agnes barden elementary school. Every time you saw me you would always remind me to follow my dreams and keep on persevering and never let any thing bring me down from what I want to be or do in life. If I could travel back in time to Elementary school I would, just to be around you and see what nice of a person you were and just to here all them good pointers you gave me and everyone else. so to the family im sorry to see this day come but we all gone see it come one day. TO MR.DILLARD IM NOT GONE SAY GOOD BYE IM JUST GONE SAY SEE YOU LATER BECAUSE I PROMISE YOU THAT I WILL SEE YOU LATER ON UP THEM STAIRES AND THROUGH THEM GOLDEN GATES OF HEAVEN. LOVE ALWAYS

In my mind, time stopped when I found out that you went home to God. Mr. Dillard, I hope your family knows how influential you were as a teacher and a mentor. Til this day you were always a part of my stories about my childhood during school at Riley elementary. I truly thank God that our paths were able to cross and you had a great impact on my life. You helped mold the image of what a man should portray! I will miss you greatly.

My prayers are going up for the family and friends.

I'm so sorry to hear about the passing of Mr. Dillard. He was my 6th grade teacher at Riley Elementary (1995). I will never forget how much he always inspired us to reach our dreams and the sky is the limit. My 6th grade class theme was "I believe". I was 10 years old at the time. I am now 24. I have forgotten some of my high school and college professors but Mr. Dillard was one teacher that none of his students could ever forget. He was more than a teacher to us, he was our mentor and a friend. He was always there to listen. I remember after I graduated from Valdosta State University I went to visit him at Miller Middle School. He stopped his class to speak and talk to me and introduce me. I talked to him a couple of months ago and he inspired me to go back to school and get my Masters in Teaching. Needless to say I am currently pursing that dream. I hope that I can be an influence on my students lives as Mr. Dillard have been on ours. He will be greatly missed but not forgotten. My prayers and condolences go out to the family and every person life that he touched.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

When I began working for David L. Dillard (I dare not forget to put the "L" in his name on any correspondence I sent on his behalf.), I didn't quite know how to take him. I soon learned that he was dedicated to educating the children in the community. There were many occasions when his past students would come back to surprise him at either Barden Elementary or Bloomfield Middle School, if just to say, "I made something of my life thanks to you." or just a simple, "Thank you.". Mr. Dillard did things in his own way and time and taught me a lot. I often asked him for advise in raising and educating my own son. Over the past couple of days, as some of us that have worked closely with him, remembered and laughed about the times he'd fuss at us because something wasn't done the way he wanted or how he'd make us redo letters, flyers, etc., we could only sit back and say how much we appreciated him for the way he trained us. We are better for it, whether it be professionally or personally, we always learned something from him. Mr. David L. Dillard, I will truly miss you.

David,

I remember you teaching Georgia history to me and so many others during middle school. I remember a field trip where another student and I got in big trouble for walking on the roof of a hotel late a night. You were always even-keeled and never mad at anything. You rolled with the punches and kept on going - the manner in which you lived your life is truly a testament for others to follow.

Years later, I fondly recall coming back to Macon - to Miller, always eager to see you. You were one of the best teachers - exemplary in everything you did. You will be sorely missed by so many, yet, your legacy will continue to live on in the lives of those students you have touched, mine included.

I'll miss you, David!

David was my mentor and friend for 24 years. We began working together when I began teaching at Miller Middle School. I later worked as his assistnat principal when he was named principal at Barden, and he was there to support me when I became a principal. Through all those years, I counted David as one of my dearest friends. I will truly miss him and his wonderful smile. My thoughts and prayers are with his family; he spoke of all of you often with so much love and pride that I feel like I knew each of you even though we may not have met. Nina, your daddy was so very proud of you. You have always been his pride and joy. One of the last conversations we had was about you and how proud he was of what a wonderful young women you are. David will leave a legacy that his family can be very proud of.

We were the first class he taught right after college. Henry Hunt Elementary 5th grade. He remained with us from grades 5-7 and molded us into respectable students and later adults. His dedication to teaching to teaching has left a profound affect on my life, teaching us far more than the text book contents. We learned honesty, dignity, and dedication. Mostly he held us to the highest possible standard.

I was in Mr. Dillard's 6th grade class at Riley Elementary back in 98-99. I just graduated college and can truly say that he was the most influential teacher that I had during all my years in school. He made me and others students feel that it was ok to make good grades. At the time I did not understand why he was so strict, but now I do and I am thankful for it. I could never explain how much Mr. Dillard changed my life. Rest in peace Mr. Dillard and my prayers go out to your family.
