July 10, 1952 - October 6, 2016
Dublin, GA- Farrell Nichols, age 64, of Dublin, passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at Fairview Park Hospital. Services will be held at 2:00PM on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at First Baptist Church Family Center. Burial will follow in Dublin Memorial Gardens. Rev. Brandon Nichols and Dr. Cliff Morris will officiate. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 6:00PM until 8:00PM at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Andy Williamson, Eric Brown, Franz Bruckmair, Mike Maffett, Louie Curry and Ken Dowling.
Mr. Nichols was born in Bainbridge, GA and graduated in 1970 from Rockdale County High School. He obtained an Associate's Degree from Abraham Baldwin College, and his BBA in Business Administration and Accounting from the University of Georgia.
He lived in McRae, GA for many years, before moving to Dublin in 1981. Farrell worked with Georgia Power Company from 1970 to 1972, and was employed by Southern Company Services from 1972 to 1974. In 1974, he began work with KPMG, and in 1978, he became Managing Partner with Nichols, Cauley & Associates, LLC, where he has worked over 30 years.
Mr. Nichols was a member of First Baptist Church of Dublin, where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and Treasurer. He was a member, and past President, of the Dublin Rotary Club; Former Scoutmaster, Eagle Scout, and Order of the Arrow with the Boy Scouts of America, and Past Chairman of the Dublin Chamber of Commerce.
Other affiliations and organizations were as follows: Past Chairman, Vice Chairman and Member of Georgia State Board of Accountancy; Past Member Global Strategies Committee of the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy; American Institute of Certified Public Accountants; The Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants, Inc; The South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants, Inc; Charter President - Heart of Georgia Chapter of the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants; The Institute of Internal Auditors, and the GSCPA Leadership Academy Alumni.
In his personal life he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family, especially at the lake skiing. He was an avid GA Bulldogs fan and will be missed by all those who loved him. He was preceded in death by his mother, Edna Merle Nichols; son-in-law, Daniel Gregory Thrasher; grandson, Nathaniel Jackson Warren and nephew, William Wylder Nichols.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Williamson Nichols, of Dublin; son, "Jon" Joseph Jackson Nichols (Debi), of Dublin; daughter, Jennifer Thrasher Warren (Patrick), of Dublin; son, Jason Farrell Nichols, of Dublin; grandchildren, Justin Thomas Nichols, Taylor Elizabeth Thrasher, Riley Cameron Nichols, Jackson Foster Nichols, Andrew Farrell Nichols, Hunter Gregory Thrasher, Joseph Charles Nichols, ShelbyAnn Danielle Thrasher, Jonah Wilson Nichols, Elizabeth AmyLynn Nichols and Jenna Michay Warren, all of Dublin, and father, Joseph J. Nichols of Ideal, GA.
