Gary Deibert Obituary
Perry, GA- Gary Oliver Deibert, 64, passed away on July 22, 2014 at a local hospital. Gary was born on January 23, 1950 in Coaldale, PA. He was preceded in death by his father, Oliver Russell Deibert and baby daughter, Amy Elizabeth Deibert.
His loving memory will be forever cherished by his beloved wife of 29 years, Linda Peterson Deibert and his devoted mother, Marjorie Stapleton Deibert. His loving children include: four daughters; Rebecca Deibert Stoffel of Winter Haven, Florida, Alison Jean( Daniel) of Atlanta, Bethany Deibert of St. Mary's, GA, Ellen Jordan (Matt) of Dallas, GA; and on son, Michael William Deibert of Perry; grandchildren; Lauren Plummer, Asa Plummer, Garrett Stoffel, Kennedy Wigley, Riley Jean, and Brantley Jordan.
Gary's life-long career was restoring and refurbishing local homes and historical buildings in Perry, Ft. Valley, and Macon. His proudest accomplishment was the full restoration of the Swift Street Inn of Perry. He spent many hours dedicating his time to the Perry Players Community Theater, of which he was a founding member. His many skills and talents included directing, acting, lighting and set design.
A visitation for family and friends will be Friday, July 25, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Watson - Hunt Funeral Home. A private family burial will be held on Sunday, July 27 at 2:00 p.m. at the Peterson Cemetery in Ailey, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, diabetes.org or 800-342-2383.

I am so sorry to hear this news. I have known Gary for only 2 short years at the Barn, but he was a great person and Mentor! Prayers and thoughts for your family. The world is a greater for having had Mr. Gary and all of his talents in it.

We made such wonderful memories together and we will never forget Gary. The shows, set building and dinners will always be a very special part of our lives; just as Gary was. My thoughts and prayers are with you Linda and the Deibert family. I met Gary about 4yrs ago when I became a part of Perry Players Theatre. And worked with him at the Perry Haunted Barn. Gary is such a great person. I enjoyed working with him and being his friend. And knowing we shared the same birthday was something special too. I will miss Gary but his spirit will always be near. Yet another friend made in community theater has died. It seems this year has been one of great loss in the Central Georgia theater community. I first met Gary in the mid 1970's. He was building sets and helping out with numerous Warner Robins Little Theatre productions long before we had a building of our own. I remember distinctly his set building for our Bi-Centenial summer musical, The Music Man, in 1976 at the WR Civic Auditorium. He was also intrumental in designing and building the set for the first musical WRLT did in their "new" building...Pippin about 1983. He designed and built my set for Gypsy in 1984. And who can forget that Gary built a wonderful locomotive for our production of Will the Mail Train Run Tonight, and also appeared as an actor in Deathtrap when I directed that. He was a talented man and a good person. I always enjoyed his easy going and amiable personality. Linda and family, I have you in my thoughts and prayers. He will be greatly missed in our community. He will be remembered.

My thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad time.Although I only knew Gary during my short 4 years in Perry we became good friends through the work he did on my house and the Perry Players.
He made me feel welcome and at home and I shall treasure my memories of a wonderful man.

So sorry to read that another Perry legacy has passed. I have fond memories of living on Linden Street with the Deibert family. My mother, Joyce Jones, and he were founding members of The Perry Players and did a wonderful job creating a great community Theatre. Marjorie and all of the Deibert family, I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. I met Gary on several occasions when he volunteered time and great effort to support a local fundraiser for the Shriner's Greenville Orthopedic Hospital for Children. What a wonderful man and generous man! The world has been a better place due to Gary's hardwork and dedication to all his endeavors.
