George Bishop Obituary

Flat Rock, North Carolina - George Patterson (Pat) Bishop Jr, 91, of Flat Rock, NC passed away October 4, 2023.
Born in Montezuma, Georgia to George Patterson Bishop and Dovie Brown Bishop, Pat earned a Business Administration degree from Auburn University and enlisted in the United States Air Force. Pat was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain.
Pat's accounting career included positions with Ralston Purina Company and Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co (KPMG), Lewis Business Forms, Inc (Duplex Products), American Heritage Life Investment Corporation, and Davis Diversified Investments before retiring in 1997.
Pat met and married wife Irene in Jacksonville, and raised two sons. He attended St. John's Episcopal Cathedral, serving on the Vestry, as Treasurer, and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, and as treasurer of the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Jacksonville.
Pat and Irene retired to Flat Rock, NC and attended St. John in the Wilderness Episcopal Church and Calvary Episcopal Church where Pat served as Treasurer, and volunteered with Habitat ReStore, and Calvary Episcopal Church Food Pantry. Pat and Irene enjoyed travels to Europe, Asia, New Zealand, and Costa Rica.
Pat is survived by wife, Irene K Bishop; sons Robert Bishop and Jim Bishop; grandchildren James Bishop and Sophia Bishop, and sister Barbara Owen.
A memorial service will be held at Calvary Episcopal Church, 2840 Hendersonville Road, Fletcher, NC on October 28th, 2023 at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of George Bishop to Calvary Episcopal Church Food Pantry, Inc, P.O. Box 187, Fletcher, NC 28732, or at www.calvaryfletcher.org/donate-1.
