Macon, GA- Geraldine "Jerry" Sullivan Douthit passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2016. Funeral services will be held at Hart's Mortuary at the Cupola at 4:00PM on Friday, December 23, 2016 with the Reverend Tim Steffen officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be private at Doles Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Methodist Children's Home, 304 Pierce Avenue, Macon, Georgia 31204.
Jerry graduated from Lanier High School for Girls. Along with her husband, she was co-owner of Cherokee Rubber Company. Jerry also had a very successful catering business. She then started her custom drapery business where she worked until she was 90 years old.
Jerry was a lifelong member of Doles United Methodist Church where she was head of the altar guild. She loved and was loved by so many, young and old. She never met a stranger and she always had a song in her heart and "on the tip of her tongue." She truly lived her religion. She was a remarkably simple woman who was simply remarkable.
Jerry was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Webb Sullivan and Avie Crane Sullivan; husband, Carl Delma Douthit; brother, H.T. Sullivan; and nephew, Tommy Sullivan. She is survived by her daughter, Carla Douthit Dodd; grandchildren, Roger Dodd (Emi) of Macon, Virginia Chew (Baxley) of Augusta, Caroline Peterson of Macon; six great grandchildren, Hanna and Mike Dodd, Henry, Virginia, and Stella Chew, and Lily Peterson; nephew, Phillip Sullivan (Ruthie); niece, Jean Sullivan, and many more nieces and nephews by marriage; and special friends, Josie Dodd, Harriett Durkee, Kay Greer, and Gerry Moody.

My condolences to family of Mrs Jerry Douthit.I hold so many memories of such a kindhearted lady.I was a babysitter for her 3 grandchildren in 1977 and for a fews years beyond.She will always hold a special place in my heart.

I am so sorry to hear of Ms Douthits passing. My Mother, Dora Cannon, used to work for her at Cherokee Rubber Co. I remember going down there with Mama on occasion. I remember her being a very nice lady. May God wrap His arms around you and bring you peace and comfort.

Carla, seems a light has gone out with your mother. She was one of the most beautiful women I knew inside and out with the most grit and determination possible. When I met her with my parents more that 65 years ago I thought her to be the grandest lady I knew and I wasn't wrong.
