Gwendolyn Phelps Obituary

Gwendolyn Alexander Phelps

Milledgeville, GA- Gwendolyn Alexander "Gwen" Phelps, 62, was victorious over Primary Peritoneal Cancer (PPC) on September 6, 2012 at her home on Lake Oconee in Greensboro, Georgia. Gwen was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. We are so proud of her and her journey through cancer. She was Christ's beloved. Her battle with cancer made her Christ's princess warrior, and she felt so used by the Lord through her cancer journey. Anyone who came in her home could not leave unless she asked them if Jesus was their Savior. Is He yours?
Thursday, September 6th, Gwen was surrounded by her husband, daughter, son, sister-in-law, friend, and wonderful Hospice nurse. Hymns were sung over her. Prayers of mercy and grace were lavished upon her. Tears of joy and sadness were ever present. Love abounded as she smiled, took her last breath, and was greeted by Jesus, her Savior, in Heaven.
Gwen was born on October 21, 1949 in Lake Charles, Louisiana to the late James Rudolph Alexander and Mildred Opal Poole Alexander. She grew up in Louisiana, was a member of the First Baptist Church in West Lake, Louisiana and a graduate of Sulphur High School in Sulphur, Louisiana. She married Rodger Dale Phelps on June 13, 1970. They made their home in Sulphur, Louisiana moving to Greensboro eight years ago in June of 2004. Besides being a wife, she was a wonderful Mom and Granny. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and, most of all, her family.
In addition to her husband, Rodger Dale Phelps of Greensboro, Georgia, she is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Candace Phelps Fry and John Fry, Jr. of Macon, Georgia; son and daughter-in-law, Stuart Phelps and Hope Brown Phelps of Charlotte, North Carolina; brother and sister-in-law, Waymon Alexander and Anita of Iowa, Louisiana; four grandchildren: Kelsey Phelps, Elijah Phelps, Camille Fry and John Thomas Fry. She was preceded in death by her brother, James "Bud" Alexander.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 10, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in Greensboro, Georgia at McCommons Chapel with Dr. Joe Brown and Dr. Timothy Brown officiating. Burial will follow at 4:30 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery, 1301 Riverside Drive, Macon, GA 31202. The family requests that any memorials be made to NarroWay Productions (www.narroway.net), Martha C. Kinnecom PPC Foundation (www.primaryperitonealcancer.org) or a charity or church of your choice. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W. Dear Roger,
My condolences to you and the family. Gwen reminds me of her mother, Mildred, both fine Christians. May your sorry be lessened by the joy of loving such a wonderful person. Susan Price Montague, BR, LA (Gwen's cousin)
