Helen Laverne Morris Moncrief -MACON - In the arms of the angels Helen Laverne Morris Moncrief, 84, slipped away peacefully Thursday at her residence surrounded by her children after a courageous, lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Disease. A celebration of her life will be held at 2 P.M., Monday at Snow's Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono Avenue with burial in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. The Rev. David Collinsworth and Mr. Chris Moncrief will officiate. -The family will meet friends from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M., Sunday at the funeral home. -Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Forget-Me-Not Memory Walk Team, c/o the Alzheimer's Association, 277 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., Macon 31201. -Laverne was born September 2, 1924 in Lewisville, TX to the late Les and Hattie Carroll. She was preceded in death by her sister, Velma Earl Carroll and her brother, Gwen David Carroll. Being a Texan, she lived in Texas all of her childhood until she and her late husband, JD Morris, to whom she was married for thirty-one years, moved the family to Georgia with their four children for her husband to become Manager of Rio Grande Fence Co. -In 1981 she married the late James Moncrief and they shared twenty-one years of life together. She had been a member of Mikado Baptist Church for more than fifty years. -Laverne was a beautiful, classy lady who lived for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed being with everyone, opening her home and heart to anyone. She was the person to whom everyone turned. Not only was she a mom to everyone, she was also a career woman having held many positions from office manager, to typist, stenographer and owner/operator of the family business, United Fence Company. She never stopped her education, returning to school in her 60's earning certification in computer technology and word processing. She enjoyed family, friends, traveling, home decorating, photography, genealogy and writing, which included composing her own autobiography. -Survivors include her daughters and their husbands, June and Warren Moncrief of Gray, Margie and Ken Sheffield of Macon and Ann and John McCoy of Macon; her son, Tommy Morris of Macon; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. -Visit www.mem.com to express tributes. -Snow's Memorial Chapel Funeral and Cremation Services, Pio Nono Avenue has charge of arrangements.
