Jerry L. Adrian

Jerry L. Adrian, 71 of Sioux Falls was called "home" on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013 at the Dougherty Hospice House. Jerry was born on January 18, 1942 in Dolton, SD to Art and Valina (Ratzlaff) Adrian. He graduated from Freeman High School in 1960. He married Sonja Stahl on June 22, 1960 in Freeman, SD. He was the founder of Adrian Sod Service in Sioux Falls, SD from 1963 until the present date.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Sonja, Sioux Falls, SD; daughters, Sheila (Tex) Wright, Sioux Falls, SD; Shawn (Butch) Mattern, Homestead, Fla., Shalece (Chris) Vinson, Worthing, SD; sons Jared (Mandee) Adrian, Sioux Falls, SD, Jayme Adrian (fiancée, Jessica) Harrisburg, SD; 16 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by I daughter Sheryl Pam; one son Jason Jon; his parents and parents in law, 3 brothers, 1 brother-in-law and one niece.

Visitation will be from noon to 4:00 pm Monday at Heritage Funeral Home and from 5:30 to 8:00 pm at First Baptist Church, Sioux Falls with a prayer service at 7:00 pm.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am, Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at First Baptist Church in Sioux Falls with burial in the Schartner Cemetery rural Freeman. The family wishes that memorials be directed to the Children's Home Society. www.heritagesfsd.com.

I am really deeply sorry for the loss of Jerry. What a courageous man. What a great family man he was. He was so full of life and zest. Hard working would be an understatement. And his faith in Christ was over the top. And his generosity was just as much over the top as well. I remember how he handled his draft horses so well and amazingly. His carriages and wagons were always beautiful. How many people loved those rides that he would give. And I will remember his way of having everyone hold hands, and he would bow his head and pray. His prayers were so eloquently spoken. A great leader to his family. I am thinking of you all. I am sorry I can not be there today or tomorrow. I am getting ready to board a plane right now. I actually tried to change it too and could not. Please know how much I admired Jerry and will miss his smile and running into him. Apple Orchard this year will seem different. It was a place we knew we'd run into him. I hope it is comforting that you will have one incredible angel over looking you now. God Bless you all.

Tim and Diane knew Brian who knew Tex and Sheila and that is how we got to know Jerry and Sonja. Friends of Friends who became our friends. We loved tailgating at the Dakota Bowl in "style" , we loved attending the Chrome for Kids Event in the Hills with them, and most of all we loved how everybody loved them and spoke of them as parents and grandparents and so the story goes. Jerry had a great life and Sonja has been a great wife and they had a great family and great times. I feel like we could write a song. This is such a loss to Jerry's family and friends, and now his life is being celebrated. We were fortunate to have a small slice of enjoying time with Jerry. We have sorda loss touch over the years, but I have many fond memories of spending the summer of 1975 with you when the kids were young. And again in 1987 when our baby Teresa was born!
