Mrs. Carol and family, I am so sorry for your loss, may god be with you in this sad time.

Carol, Bobby and Becky,
Today I went online to see what Draper had posted. Has been many months since I’ve checked. Living in NC, I often never know when my friends have departed. Am always relieved when I read the names posted and know no one listed. However, today, I had to read the name twice to make sure I was reading correctly, and was so sad to read Jerry’s name. My heart was filled with much emotions, and enjoyed so much seeing his smiling face.

"Miss Ruth" was a dear sweet lady and a good friend to my mother Norma. How much I enjoyed going out to her "beauty shop" and watching her fix the Perry ladies' hair and having her cut and roll mine in the latest new "do." Always remember her doing Mrs. Pritchett’s hair and using a barrette to pull back her lovely white hair to cover up a bald spot. Today, I am doing the same “trick.” Miss Ruth taught me how to knit one, purl two, and am sad that I no longer remember all she taught me, but do have the circular needles she gave me. Maybe her spirit will guide me to begin again. How much I would love for her to also give me another hair cut and roll. Perry "beauticians" were the best I've ever found.

Jerry was always smiling, and my daddy Julian loved all the Horton family, especially Mr. Robert. I loved the family’s beautiful country home, which now is sadly, in the middle of the by-pass. Bobby will always be "my cousin" having married Cecile Bush, my beautiful Dooly County cousin way back when and who attended many reunions until my sweet grandmother Mae Wilson passed on. Becky will always be the cute little girl her mother loved so much who often came into her mother's shop. The last time I saw Becky was at Laurie Tolleson's memorial service in Atlanta several years ago. She was as pretty and friendly as ever. My Mother also loved Miss Ruth and the entire Horton family very much.

No matter our ages, our life memories in Perry will always be cherished. Carol, even though I was a few years younger (Class ’67), you and Jerry were "a couple" as along as I can remember. You were indeed kindred spirits and soulmates, and very blessed to have been together for so long. Indeed, his family and friend’s hearts and minds are filled with wonderful memories. On the days when hearts are so very heavy, pull up one of those fun times together, and let your heart sing.

Jerry's spirit will always be around "doing tricks” to his family and friends. Enjoy his little visits whenever you experience them. I ask his spirit to give his mother and my daddy a big hug and kiss for me!

Heart full of love,

"It is only with the heart that one can see; what is essential is invisible to the eye."

Carol and Family:
Jerry always brought a smile to everyone in my family whenever we ran into him. I admired his sense of humility when he ends his funny stories with the statement "I am the luckiest person on earth to have a nice woman-Carol put up with my craziness" He seemed to be always ready to help anyone who asked him a favor. He had a philosophy that nothing could go wrong by being friendly to everyone.
We consider ourselves to be one of his friends and we want to let you know that we are thinking of you and praying that God give you and everyone the necessary strength at this time of deep sorrow,
We thank God for giving us a chance to enjoy his wonderful frienship and if we can do anything, please call.
Sincerely, Cabby and Lorna

GOLDEN HEART

God saw you getting tired
and a cure was not meant to be,
So he put his arms around you
and whispered "Come to Me".
With tearful eyes we watched you,
as we saw you pass away.
Although we loved you deeply,
we could not make you stay.
Your Golden Heart stopped beating,
hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the best.

Carol and family,
We are so very sorry to learn of your loss. Jerry was one of the good one's.The fair will not ever be the same with out his smiling face.He always picked on me and all my kids.I remember one year my crew were having a fit for cotton candy.(Which we usually get on our way out)We were watching one of the shows next thing I knew Jerry pulled up beside me in his golf cart with 3 very large bags of cotton candy for them to share..He had that big grin on his face,so I couldnt be mad at him if I had wanted to.Please know that we have you all in our thoughts and prayers.May you find comfort in your memories.
A Letter From Heaven
To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

I have warm memories of Jerry. As classmates in high school and friends throughout the years, he was always so personable, enjoyable to be around and someone I always considered to be a dear friend. To Carol and rest of the family, please know that you all are in our thoughts and prayers during these difficult days. Godspeed to you, and my recollections of my friend, Jerry, will be forever etched in my memory.

Carol and family - -
We have so many precious memories of school days with Jerry as well as times we shared at the ag center during the fair. We are saddened by his untimely death but grateful for what he meant to us as a friend. Our prayer at this time is that you will feel God's comforting presence during the coming days and weeks.
