Larry Justice Obituary
December 1, 1937 - August 14, 2012
Macon, GA- Larry Gene Justice, former Bibb County Commission Chairman and long-time community leader, passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be at 1:00PM on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Mikado Baptist Church with the Reverends Ed Chambless and Rusty Smith officiating. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be between 6:00-8:00PM on Friday, August 17, 2012 at Hart's at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road. The family may be contacted at 1905 Johnson Road.
Mr. Justice, a native Maconite, was born December 1, 1937 and was educated at Lanier High School and the Georgia Institute of Realtors. Mr. Justice enjoyed a successful career as a Realtor from 1969-1990, when he began serving as the full time Chairman of the Bibb County Board of Commissioners.
Mr. Justice's community service began in 1969 when he won his first election to the Bibb Board of Commissioners. During the next three decades he served periodically as chairman of all county committees, including the Finance Committee, where he was known as a frugal guardian of taxpayers' monies. Mr. Justice served on numerous boards and committees in the Macon-Bibb County community and was most proud of his leading role as a member and assistant treasurer of the 21st Century Partnership, the NewTown Macon Board of Directors, the Mercer University School of Medicine Board of Governors and Chairman of the Bibb County Roads Program Executive Committee when local roads were upgraded during the decade of the '90's.
Mr. Justice was also an active leader in county issues at the state level. He brought his fiscal expertise to the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia where he served as Chairman of the Taxation and Finance Committee, the Transportation Committee and numerous other committees. He also served as President of that statewide group in 1995 and 1996.
Professionally, Mr. Justice was a past president of the Macon Board of Realtors, where he was the recipient of the Million Dollar Award. He was also a past director and member of the Georgia Association of Realtors. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Lizella Lodge.
Mr. Justice is survived by his wife, Shirley O'Neal Justice, of Macon; four children, Alan Justice M.D. (Denise), Mark Justice, Angela Justice, and Tonya Haney (Donnie); eight grandchildren, Landon Justice, Jordan Justice, Lindsey Justice, James Justice, Kelsey Justice, Morgan Haney, Nickolas French, and Autumn Mimbs.

Mr. Justice was a true southern gentleman. When I was a reporter at WMAZ in the early 80s, he was always available and forthright -- two qualities that are in short supply in the political arena. He epitomized the phrase "public servant." May God be with his family during this difficult time.
