Manning Claxton Obituary

Manning Claxton, Jr. -DUBLIN - Services for Manning Zachariah (Brother) Claxton, Jr., age 68, of Dublin, GA will be held 2P.M. Sunday February 29, 2004 at First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Northview Cemetery with Masonic rites at the grave. Officiating Dr. Cliff Morris, Rev. Jack Key, Dr. Lamar Holley and Rev. Jim Dorriety. -Deceased died Wednesday, February 25, 2004. -Mr. Claxton was born in Dublin in 1935. He was the son of the late Manning Zachariah Claxton, Sr. and the late Georgia Lou Whitaker Claxton. Mr. Claxton was a graduate of Dublin High School and Wake Forest University. He was a coach at Wake Forest University and Wrightsville High School. He was president of Claxton-Lawrence Ford in Dublin. Mr. Claxton was a member of First Baptist Church where he was a Deacon, member of the Chancel Choir and the Explorer Sunday School Class. He was also a member of the Dublin Country Club, Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge, Kiwanis Club, Laurens Lodge #75 F& AM, the Olivet Commandry #27 Knights of Templar and was a member of the Al Sihah Shrine Temple. He was a member of Kappa Alpha, the Fine Arts, and Historical Society. He coached Dublin Recreation Department Sports, played saxophone in the Jazz Band and was an avid golfer with many awards. He was a past president of the Claxton Reunion. Mr. Claxton served on the City of Dublin Board of Education and was on the Board of J. Walter Thompson Advertising Agency for Ford Motor Co. Survivors include wife, Nancy Jenkins Claxton of Dublin, GA; children, Elizabeth Anne Claxton, Jonathan Manning Claxton, Benjamin Zachariah Claxton; sister, Nannette Claxton Woodard; mother in law, Iola C. Nelson of Cedartown; brother in law, Mike Fuller of Macon; nieces, Lydia (Neil) Loyd, Wanda Woodard, and Paula Barrett; nephews, Zachary (Mary) Woodard and Michael (Christie) Fuller; great nieces and nephews , Whitney Loyd, Garrett Loyd, Reece Woodard, Joshua Long, Angel Long; personal caregiver, Camilla Allen; several cousins. -Pallbearers will be Zachary Woodard, Neil Loyd, Garrett Loyd, Bo-J Claxton, Ben Eubanks, John Bell III, Michael Fuller, Lee Whitaker, Craig Fordham, Scott Bourassa. -In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, Music Ministry, 405 Bellevue Avenue, Dublin. The family will receive friends at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00P.M. -Townsend Brothers Funeral Home, Inc.
