Robert Waldrup Obituary

Robert L. "Bob" Waldrup -MILLEDGEVILLE - Mr. Robert L. "Bob" Waldrup, formerly of Griffin and Macon, passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at the age of 85. He had been a resident of the Georgia War Veterans Home in Milledgeville since July, 2008. -Mr. Waldrup was born on February 6, 1924 in Spalding County to the late Quincy Adams Waldrup and the late Minnie Bell Chambers Waldrup. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Elizabeth "Jibber" Piper Waldrup, four brothers and five sisters. The Waldrup sisters were Lutie Waldrup, Quincy "Tip" Waldrup, Emma Waldrup, Mary Waldrup Baker, and Ruby Waldrup Stubbs. The brothers were Edwin Waldrup, Oscar "Woodie" Waldrup, Harris Waldrup and Woodrow Wilson "Doc" Waldrup. Mr. Waldrup was a 1941 graduate of Spalding High School, a veteran of World War II having fought in Europe. He was captured in the battle of Anzio and held as a POW in Germany for fourteen months. Mr. Waldrup retired from the Colonial Pipeline Co. in 1986. He was an avid bowler, NASCAR race fan, attended air shows around the Southeast and enjoyed photographing with his favorite subject being his wife Jibber, and his many "backyard" buddies. His favorite vacation sites were Daytona Beach, Florida and the Great Smoky Mountains. Mr. Waldrup was a member and deacon at the Damascus Christian Church on Vineyard Road, Griffin. -Survivors include sister-in-law, Frances "Sis" Waldrup of Griffin. The surviving nieces are Carol Stubbs Bunn and husband Jerome of Forsyth, Thalia Stubbs Beck and husband Wayne of Griffin, Susan Waldrup Edward and husband James of Marietta. The surviving nephews are Wendell Stubbs and wife Nettie of Appling, Herbert Stubbs and wife Deborah of Griffin, Reverend Danny Stubbs and wife Kathy of Fort Valley, Mike Waldrup of Shalimar, FL. -Funeral services for Mr. Robert Lewis Waldrup will be conducted on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at 11A.M. at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Reverend Danny Stubbs will officiate. Interment will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Griffin, GA. -Friends may visit the family Monday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. -Conner-Westbury Funeral Home, 1891 West McIntosh Road is in charge of arrangements. -www.conner-westburyfuneralhome.com Robert Waldrup

Mr Bob will be in our memories for ever. He and Elisabeth were a part of our lives since we moved here in 1983. They were or friends and second parents. They were there for us in so many ways.
