Roger Botwin Obituary
March 18, 1949 - May 30, 2022
Porter, Texas - Roger Dean Botwin, age 73, of Porter, Texas, passed away on May 30, 2022, while enjoying a beach vacation with his family. Roger was born in Birmingham, AL and moved to Columbia, SC at age 13. He graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1973 and enjoyed a 40 year banking career in various Georgia cities. In 2021, Roger and Kathy moved to Texas to be near grandchildren. In his spare time, Roger loved creating music on guitar, playing golf and tennis, supporting a confusing number of SEC teams and one ACC team, coaching and cheering for his children in sports, woodworking, and watching any sci-fi or western film under the sun.
Roger was proceeded in death by parents, Mary and Paul Botwin; and sister, Shirley Calmer. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy; children; Matt Botwin and Jenn (Jesse) Kent; grandchildren; Madison, Joseph, and Daniel Kent; mother-in-law, Anita Owens; sister, Tina (Harold) Motley; nephew, Butch (Natalie) Motley; great-nieces; Ramsey and Landry Motley.
The family is planning to hold a future Celebration of Life in Columbia, SC.

Roger taught me guitar in Columbia before graduating USC. He taught me one of his songs called be my woman. Still play it today. Sorry for your loss. He was a great guy.

I got to know Roger back in his early days of banking in Atlanta when a group from C&S Bank would meet on Fridays for drinks and dancing. Attended his and Kathy's wedding. Don't know that I've seen him in person since then, but was glad to reconnect with Kathy on FB. I remember Roger as a kind, gentle person. Saddened to hear of his sudden passing. Do hope I'll get to see him again one day in heaven. My sincere condolences to Kathy and the other family members.

Roger and I became friends when he first got into banking with C&S in Atlanta. Over the years we both moved several times and lost touch with one another. But we always reconnected. He was a great person and a true friend. The Lord got a special angel when Roger went through the pearly gates.
