Stephen Solomon Obituary

Stephen Malone "Peter" Solomon, IV
October 13, 1936 - June 20, 2022
Macon, Georgia - Stephen Malone "Peter" Solomon, IV was born in Macon, Georgia on October 13, 1936 and died June 20, 2022 with his family by his side. He graduated from Lanier High School and The Georgia Institute of Technology with a degree in Industrial Engineering. Through the ROTC program at Georgia Tech, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army and served as a pilot for four years. He moved his family back to Macon in 1962 and joined the family automobile dealership, Steve M. Solomon Jr. Motor Company. Peter transitioned into the real estate business in the early 1970s and was a founding partner of Sheridan Solomon and Kernaghan, Inc. In his professional life, Peter was president of the Macon Board of Realtors, the Macon Multiple Listing Service, and was named Realtor of the Year. He was also active in the community serving as chairman of the Macon Bibb County Hospital Authority and later chairman of the board of the Central Georgia Health Systems. He served as chairman of the Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority as well as the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce. Peter was past president of the Macon Civic Club where he was a long time member and enjoyed many years of performing in the annual show. In fact, he always loved to say, "Show business is my life!"
Peter was a lifelong member of Christ Church, serving on the Vestry as Senior Warden and singing in the choir for over fifty years. His love of music also led him to be an active member of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America (SPEBSQSA) singing in the chorus and in an award winning quartet "The Showboats." Peter enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, and singing with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends of all ages.
Peter was predeceased by his parents, Stephen Malone Solomon, III and Elizabeth Feagin Solomon; and his brother, Robert English Solomon. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Nan Millwood Solomon; son, Stephen Malone Solomon, V (Kelly) of Macon; daughters; Nan Solomon Harper (Hal) of Macon, and Kathleen Solomon Brown (Cameron) of Augusta; and his sister, Ginger Solomon Birdsey of Atlanta. "Big Pete" is survived by eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at Christ Church, 582 Walnut St. at 11:00AM, Thursday, June 23, 2022 with the Reverend Cynthia C. Knapp officiating, followed by a reception in The Great Hall located in the Parish House. The burial will be private.
