William Horlock Obituary

William Mann "Bill" Horlock, Jr. -JONES COUNTY - William Mann "Bill" Horlock, Jr., 61, of Graystone Circle, died Tuesday, November 13, 2007, in a Roswell nursing home. A memorial service will be held at 11A.M., Friday, November 16, 2007, in the chapel of Bridges Funeral home, with burial at Georgia Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville. Rev. Jerry Jones will officiate. -The son of the late William Mann Horlock, Sr. and Edith Marbut Horlock, he was born in Savannah on October 07, 1946. Mr. Horlock was a member of the United States Air Force, where he was a proud member of the Strategic Air Command, serving as a jet engine mechanic on B-52's during the Vietnam War. Returning home after his military service, he married, moved to Macon and started a business, Middle Georgia Scale. Mr. Horlock was a member of the Jones County Volunteer Fire Department, was the Chair of the Appeals Board of Jones County and was a member of Pitts Chapel United Methodist Church. 1n 1992, the family moved to Atlanta and Bill became the owner of Framin Place, where he continued to use his artistic and mechanical talents. -Bill returned to Macon in 2000, and despite being in a wheelchair from a 1998 motorcycle accident, he helped serve his community by working with the Salvation Army at Christmas, served as a voting booth coordinator, was a member of the Vietnam Vets Middle Georgia Chapter and was an Auxillary Deputy with the Jones County Sheriff's Department. -During his life, Bill enjoyed spending time with his family and also enjoyed scuba diving, hunting and fishing. He most enjoyed being a PawPaw to his granddaughters: Katie and Sarah. Bill's strength and courage in the face of his adversities of the last nine years have been an inspiration to many. -Bill is survived by his son and daughter-in-law: William Mann and Emily Simms Horlock, III, of Woodstock; granddaughters: Caitlyn Anne Horlock and Sarah Lee Anne Horlock, both of Woodstock; and by his sisters: Anne Horlock Shealy and Karen Ann Echols, both of Vandiver, Alabama. -Please visit the online memorial at: www.bridgesfh.com. -Bridges Funeral Home in Gray has charge of arrangements.

I met Bill when he came rumbling down our driveway on Walnut Creek Trail. I kept bumping into him here and there after that and I was always glad to see him. I was saddened to hear of his passing. I will remember him fondly and with much admiration. I'll be praying for his family to be comforted.
