Albert J. Hefty
November 26, 1933 - October 15, 2025
Albert J. Hefty, age 91, passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at Cardinal View in Middleton, Wisconsin. He was born on November 26, 1933, on a farm outside Verona, son of Jacob C. and Kathryn (Krugjohann-Schlatter) Hefty, that later became University Ridge Golf Course. When Albert was 11, he and his family moved to New Glarus where he excelled as an athlete in high school playing football and basketball. Albert graduated from New Glarus High School in 1953 and continued his education at the University of Wisconsin until being drafted into the United States Army. On April 6, 1957, he was united in marriage to Nancy Slotten at the Primrose Lutheran Church. Nancy joined Albert where he was stationed in the Army in New Jersey and later Milwaukee. After his discharge in 1958 he worked at Pet Milk in New Glarus and then the Carnes Company in Verona. In 1959 Albert and Nancy purchased their farm East of New Glarus, and they farmed for many years retiring from dairy farming in 1998 and then retiring off the farm in 2021. Al enjoyed watching all the Wisconsin sports teams and following his children's and grandchildren's sports and activities.
Albert is survived by his wife Nancy; children Bruce (Mary Fredrickson) Hefty, Jeanne (Jeff) Meyer, Julie (David) Molitor, Kristine (Michael) Tilstra, and Brian (Sara) Hefty; eleven grandchildren Brandon, Amanda (Michael), Nicholas (Alissa), Thomas, Adrian (Shawn), Kassie, Aaron, Rose, Nathaniel, Theodore, Emily, and Isaac; and eight great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his sister-in-law Connie Slotten; brother-in-law Dale Hustad; nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law Patricia and Gerald Stein, brother-in-law Wayne Slotten, and sister-in-law Beth Hustad.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 27, 2025, at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 Sixth Ave., New Glarus, Wisconsin, with Rev. Kelly Volk officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the West Primrose Cemetery, rural Belleville, Wisconsin.
A visitation will precede the funeral service from 9:30 a.m. to the time of the services on Monday, October 27, 2025, at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home in New Glarus.
