Arthur Plautz Obituary

Dr. Arthur Carl Plautz, Jr.

June 6, 1934 - March 9, 2024

MADISON - Dr. Arthur Carl Plautz, Jr., age 89, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2024, with Alice, his wife of 57 years, and family members by his side.

Art was born June 6, 1934, in Milwaukee, WI, the son of Arthur and Gertrude Plautz. He graduated from Rufus King High School, and went on to attend Marquette University and Medical School. After completing the medical program in three years, he earned his MD in 1958. He then completed his residency in the Milwaukee area.

After being drafted into the military, he went to Vietnam and served as a surgeon in the US Army. He met the love of his life, Alice, on July 8, 1966, at the 85th EVAC in Qui Nhon. It was love at first sight. The two were married on December 27, 1966, at the Qui Nhon Support Command Chapel.

Once home, Art practiced Urology at Janesville Riverview Clinic and in the Dean Medical System until his retirement. Guided by compassion and empathy, he went above and beyond for his patients and his community, treating them with dignity and respect.

Art spent his life loving and watching his five children and ten grandchildren grow. He attended various sporting events and activities with a video camera in hand. With his brilliant mind, he avidly completed crosswords, skunked anyone in Cribbage, consistently beat Jeopardy, and watched his favorite show, Wheel of Fortune.

As an active member of First Lutheran Church in Janesville, he helped take video of services and weddings. He finished his life as a member at Messiah Lutheran Church in Madison.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Alice, his sister, Jean Tower; and children: Arthur Plautz III (Michelle), Julia Neppl (Philip), Laura Smith (James), Joseph Plautz (Tracee) and Andrew Plautz (Kim-Tai); and his glorious grandchildren: Emilee Meyer (Jacob), Isabelle Plautz, Sophie Plautz, Jackson Plautz, Chloe Plautz, Alexis Smith, Dora Neppl, Ava Plautz, Henry Plautz, Mikaela Smith; numerous nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 5202 Cottage Grove Road, Madison. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Wisconsin Parkinson Association or The Michael J. Fox Foundation.

The Family welcomes all those who have been touched by his life and legacy to join in this day of remembrance.

Art's family would like to thank the services of Common Heart Hospice and care givers, especially Marilyn Anderson and Deb Wilcox.
