David Sieg Obituary

David Oliver Sieg, age 88, of Madison, Wisconsin, made his final journey on August 20, 2024.

Dave was born on November 5, 1935, to Oliver and Olga (Magnussen) Sieg in Black River Falls, Wisconsin. After graduating from Fairchild High School in 1953, Dave attended the Farm Short Course at UW Madison. He worked in the eastern United States for several years as a herdsman, which afforded travel and adventure to a small-town farm kid that he remembered fondly in many stories. Dave went on to do landscaping, dairy farming, and ultimately his most rewarding job: building golf courses for The Bruce Company. Throughout his life, Dave loved music. He played guitar, sang, and made up songs about everything from the family dogs to going to the dump. In his later years woodworking and carving became a favorite hobby. He was a master storyteller. He was a supportive, loving Dad and Grandpa. He never heard an Ole and Lena joke he didn't love to tell, even if he couldn't finish it because he was laughing too hard.

Dave was preceded in death by his infant son, Brian David Sieg; former wife, Norma Sieg; son-in-law, Don McCarthy; granddaughter, Dawn Fellner; and brother, Arnold Sieg.

He is survived by his wife, Susie Sieg; sister-in-law, Cheryl Sieg; step-daughter, Carol McCarthy; daughter, Jennifer (Brad) Lammers; son, Jon (Kara) Sieg; step-children Hilary (Eric) Shager, Travis (Sarah) Groth, April (Aaron) Hartman, and Clayton (Tara) Groth; grandsons Anthony (Amy) Schultz; Tyson Lammers; and Zach (Dana) Lammers; and beloved dog, Zelda.

A memorial service will be planned for the near future. Donations in Dave's name can be made to WayForward Resources or The Empty Stocking Club, two charities near and dear to his heart.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the doctors, nurses and CNAs at UW Hospital; Oak Park Place Nakoma in Madison; and Agrace hospice care staff for their wonderful, dignified and respectful care.

Everett and I want to express our heartfelt sympathy to David's family. WE were classmates of his brother Arnold and Dave was an upperclassman at the time. Mrs. Seig was a teacher in our school. Being a small school we were all good friends. Such good memories of the Seig family.

Susie when Dave passed people around here told a story. They said when you both would walk Zelda that you always held hands. The visual is beautiful and I hope you still feel him holding your hand.

Have known Dave since the 60´s and he hadn´t changed in all the years. He was a friend that everyone would be privileged to know, I know I was. He loved his life and his family to the end and if you wanted honesty, ask Dave. He always found time to stay in touch or stopped to visit when in town and I so appreciated it. He loved what he did and gave it all he had. I have a few of his carvings and use my coffee scoop everyday!
Thank you Dave for being a part of my life and now Rest in Peace

Our love and sympathy to the entire Sieg family as you adjust to life on earth without your loved one. We so enjoyed our visits with Dave throughout the years. He always had something substantial, plus fun, to add to the conversation. He was a special man and will be greatly missed. Ralph and Donna Shager
