Gary Alan Becker, MD

MADISON - Gary Alan Becker, MD, age 86, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, October 10, 2022.
He was born on November 3, 1935, to the late Lawrence and Evelyn Becker. Gary married the love of his life, Carole Anderson on December 21, 1957, and they had four children. A veteran, Gary served his country and was stationed at the air force base in Albuquerque, NM, from 1962-1964.
Dr. Becker became the head of the Badger Region of the Red Cross in 1972, and went on to become a National Director for the organization. In 1982, he and several other delegates were among the first tour and inspect blood-banking facilities in China. He was awarded the Charles Drew award by Elizabeth Dole, president of the Red Cross in 1997.
After retirement, Gary enjoyed golfing, cooking, fishing, and was an avid Wisconsin sports fan. He loved to talk with family and friends about games results. He cherished times with his family especially over the holidays. He, along with Carole were the consummate hosts. Gary was incredibly generous with his family and grandchildren. He was kind and brilliant and will be missed by his family and all who loved him.
He is survived by his sister, Barbara (John) Harris; and his brother, Theodore (Genie) Becker; as well as children: Paul (Kathy) Becker, David (Debbie) Becker, and Karen (Tony Galloro) Becker; his daughter-in-law, Diane (Robert); as well as several grand, and great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and by his son, Robert Becker.
Visiting hours are Saturday, November 12, 2022, at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Rd., Madison, WI, 53705 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. There is no burial or service. Donations in his memory can be made to the American Red Cross Southwest Chapter.

Always enjoyed him. He so loved the Red Cross family and cared about each one of us. Will never forget the jangling keys when he just wanted to get on with it..

I am so sorry to learn this. My condolences to Gary's family. While I did not have the opportunity to work with Gary his legacy has a strong presence in the Madison office.
