Rauch, George M.

MADISON – George M. Rauch, age 88, of Madison, passed away on Monday, April 5, 2021, at Agrace HospiceCare. He was born in Springfield Corners, the oldest of eight children, on March 9, 1933, the son of Mathias and Clara Rauch. He graduated from Edgewood High School, Class of 1950. George proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954.

While raising a family of five children, he ran Rauch Builders with his brother, Dick, and the help of his brother, Clifford. Rauch Builders was well known in the community for their attention to detail in each of their quality custom-built homes. He often said he loved going to work every day. George was a 48-year member and Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 4527.

He married the love of his life, Phyllis, in 1976 and they spent 45 happy, loving years together, building their dream home, taking road trips, and spending time with family and close friends.

George is survived by his wife, Phyllis; children, Robert (Anita) Rauch, Ruth Ann (Rob Gannon) Weber, Randall Rauch and Richard (Lindsay) Rauch; daughter-in-law, Laurel Rauch; son-in-law, Thomas Packard (Kathleen Moore); step-children, Steve (Jane) Duckwitz and Scott Duckwitz (Kathleen O'Brien); 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Karen (Dave) Armour and Kathy (Stan Rein) Power; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Rauch and Joanne Rauch; and many close nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Rae Ellen Packard; his son-in-law, Thomas W. Weber Sr.; brothers, Richard Rauch, Clifford Rauch, Thomas (Jean) Rauch and Jim Rauch; and sister, Phyllis McGrath.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 401 S. Owen Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 12, 2021, with Father Rich Litzau, O.P. presiding. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave., Middleton, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 11, 2021, and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the start of the Mass on Monday. Due to COVID-19 guidelines, only 50 people will be allowed into the funeral home at one time. Social distancing and face masks will be required.

The family would like to thank Agrace HospiceCare and all of George's special friends who helped the family with their support, thoughts and prayers. Memorials in George's name may be made to the Dane County Humane Society.
