Glenda Lindsay Obituary

Glenda B. Lindsay

March 20, 1937 - January 28, 2025

Glenda B. Lindsay passed away on January 28, 2025, in Troy, Michigan, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 20, 1937, in Telluride, Colorado, to Anna Noma Carter and Glen A. Boyd. Glenda spent her childhood in the mountains of the Western Slope before attending Montrose High School. She later studied at Colorado State University for two years while working as a secretary in the Poultry Science Department.

In 1957, she married Robert C. Lindsay. Together, they lived in Corvallis, Oregon, from 1960 to 1969 before settling in Madison, Wisconsin, where they raised their two daughters and made their home for more than 50 years.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Glenda was lovingly known as "Granny" to her grandchildren. She gave generously of her time, serving as a Girl Scout leader and volunteering with church and university organizations. She was an active member of the Daughters of Demeter, where she took special interest in sewing for the UW hospital, and she also served on the University League Board. For over 20 years, she was a dedicated volunteer with the Attic Angel Association's Snowflake Class of 1990, fondly known as "The Flakes", a group that collectively contributed more than 48,000 hours of service.

An accomplished seamstress, Glenda took great joy in sewing, knitting, quilting, and creating clothing. She embraced the outdoors with a spirit of adventure, enjoying hiking, canoeing, camping, fishing, mushroom hunting, and gardening, proudly bagging her first goose at the age of 52. She loved sharing the bounty from the Babington Road Garden Club and wild game meals, often gifting bouquets from a field of zinnias in the summer and filling their garage with pumpkins and squash in the fall for carving parties, complete with her famous squash soup.

Glenda is survived by her husband of 67 years, Robert; her daughter Alison Lindsay (Albuquerque, NM); her daughter Kellie Lindsay and her children, Anna Treppa and John Treppa (Birmingham, MI); and countless friends she considered family through the UW Food Science Department and her many social and civic activities.

Her kindness, generosity, cheerful sense of humor and adventurous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Glenda Lindsay's honor to the American Cancer Society, supporting the fight against cancer and those affected by it.

Glenda was my 2nd cousin. Her mom and mine were 1st Adams cousins, both born and growing up in the Telluride area. While living in the Denver area, Glenda was my babysitter while my mom taught and she attended college. She was a special lady.

When we moved to Madison, Glenda was the first neighbor that came to say hello and then she had a coffee for me to meet the rest of the neighborhood - they lived one house away. Alison became our first babysitter too. I always enjoyed her as a go to neighbor.
