Herbert Jabs
August 12, 1961 - January 27, 2025
MOUNT HOREB - Herbert Jabs passed away on January 27, 2025, at the age of 63. The first-born son of Erwin and Käthe Jabs, Herb and his brother, Wally, and sister, Erika, were born and raised in Madison, Wisconsin. After attending Madison East High School, Herb graduated from Madison Area Technical College with an associate's degree in Electronics. He had been a resident of Mount Horeb, Wisconsin for 25 years.
Herb is leaving behind a legacy of quiet strength and a genuine appreciation for life's simple pleasures. A lifelong fishing enthusiast, Herb found peace and renewal on calm waters at daybreak, embracing the serene rhythm of nature as a source of comfort and inspiration.
Viewed by some as a gentle giant, Herb's presence was matched only by his kind heart and soulful nature. His warm smile, thoughtful nature, and meticulous attention to detail made him a beloved figure to those around him. A deeply spiritual man, he found meaning in the world around him, cherishing the profound connections between nature and the human spirit.
Herb always wanted the best for everyone, offering kindness, wisdom, and encouragement to all. He was known for his generosity and always offered a willing hand to those in need, ready to lend support without hesitation. His ability to notice the little things in life, combined with his reflective and down-to-earth character, allowed him to live each day with quiet passion. In addition to his love for fishing, he held a deep fondness for blues music - a taste that added even more depth to his soulful nature.
In his life, Herb was blessed to find his soulmate, Nancy, who completed him in every way. Together, they shared a deep and enduring love, finding joy and peace in each other's presence. Her loss to cancer was devastating and left a void in his heart that could never be filled. Yet, Herb carried her memory with him always, and her spirit continued to inspire him as he moved forward, cherishing the time they shared.
Herb is survived by his life partner, Patricia Schmidt; father, Erwin Jabs; brother, Wally (Michele) Jabs along with their children, Cece Jabs and Keeley Jabs; sister, Erika (Keith) Esser; beloved Aunt Hilda Jeschke; niece, Emilie Glotfelty; and nephews, Jeff Gilreath and Davy Gilreath. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Braun; mother, Käthe Jabs; and grandparents, Adolf and Emilie Jabs and Herman and Inge Carstensen.
Herb's family was always central to his heart, and the bonds he shared with them brought him great joy and a deep sense of fulfillment.
