James Martin Obituary

James Frank Martin

June 14, 1939 - June 24, 2025

James F. Martin, age 86, of Madison, Wisconsin passed away on June 24, 2025. Jim was born on June 14, 1939, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Harold and Ardath Martin.

He married Barbara Lillian Evans on April 1, 1967, in Chicago. Jim grew up in the South Shore neighborhood of Chicago and attended St. Phillip Neri Elementary School, Mt. Carmel High School and the University of Notre Dame. He was a partner at Ernst & Young where he worked for 35 years.

Jim never sought or needed the spotlight to be extraordinary. He lived a life of humble service in steadfast love, and in quiet acts of grace that left the world better than he found it. He traveled the world but always looked forward to returning to Wisconsin's Northwoods and fishing lakes. He loved to tell big fish stories, cheat at golf and spend time with lifelong buddies from South Shore.

Jim valued volunteering and donated his time to several homeless shelters and the Illinois Arthritis Foundation. He loved his family and his face lit up whenever he spent time with his four grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughter, Karen (Mark Bauman); son, Jim (Marissa); grandchildren, Ali, Michaela, Nathan, and Andrew; and sisters, Marilyn Caputo (Tony) and Gayle Lindbeck. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Ardath Martin; brother-in-law, Steve Lindbeck; and his nephew, Stephen Lindbeck.

Funeral Mass will be held on July 22, 2025, at 11:45 AM at St. Thomas Aquinas, 602 Everglade Dr., Madison. Visitation will precede the mass beginning at 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM. The service will be live-streamed at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/c/StThomasAquinasChurchMadison/

A luncheon will follow at 1:30 PM at Blackhawk Country Club, 3606 Blackhawk Dr, Madison.
