John W. "Jack" Johnson
SPRING GREEN - John W. "Jack" Johnson, age 92, of Spring Green, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on July 27, 2024, at Greenway Manor.
He is survived by his children: Eric (Gina), Jeff (Mary Lynn), Peggy (Jim) Ring, Jennifer (Chad) Kannenberg; fourteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; brother, Paul (Carol) Johnson; two sisters-in-law, Marcia Johnson and Ann (Rolf) Quisling. Preceding him in death were father and mother, Hoyt and Thelma; wife, Margaret; brothers: Hoyt and Tommy; daughter, Jacquie (Johnson) Conti; and grandson, John Conti.
Jack was born in Cumberland, WI, a graduate of Richland Center High School and UW Madison where he was a member of Chi Phi Fraternity and where he met the love of his life Margaret who he was married to for 66 wonderful years.
During their loving relationship, the two of them were fortunate to share their wooded country home in Spring Green and travel to many destinations, as well as spend special times in Bonita Springs, FL. The inseparable couple were very proud of their entire family and all of their accomplishments.
With a career that started at American Exchange Bank in Madison, a banker his whole life, Jack was so proud of the community banks he established or merged including the State Bank of Spring Green, Farmers State Bank, Valley Bank, M&I/BMO, The Peoples Community Bank, all in Spring Green and surrounding communities in the River Valley area.
Jack was involved in many civic groups and member of boards that helped benefit many such as Gard Theater, Greenway Manor, The Peoples Community Bank, Sauk Prairie Hospital, American Players Theatre, Lions Club, Spring Green Dolphins Swim Team, and past president of the Wisconsin Bankers Association.
In his free time he enjoyed golfing with his Thursday and Sunday men's groups and with his wife and family members. He was a UW football and basketball season ticket holder for over 45 years as family of all ages thoroughly enjoyed cheering on the beloved Badgers. Jack enjoyed summer vacation time in the north woods, especially captaining pontoon boat rides with his grandchildren aboard. Ski trips to Northern Wisconsin and Colorado were also a winter highlight.
The family would like to thank his trusted doctor and friend Mark Timmerman and nurse Shae Butler of River Valley Medical Clinic, Sauk Prairie Healthcare Wound Center, dear friend Lucy Bindl, all the many fellow bank employees that worked for him over the years, nurses and doctors at Meriter Hospital, and all the wonderful superhero staff at Meadows, Greenway Manor and Agrace.
Jack's daughters, sons and grandchildren know he is "catching up" to his wife and forever best friend for life.
A celebration of life gathering will take place on Saturday, August 10, 2024, from 4:00 - 7:00 PM with special prayer and family memories at 5:30 PM at The Ring Barn, S10210 Highway 23, Spring Green, WI. The family respectfully asks that no young children attend. Your prayers and love for the family are appreciated.
