Mark W. Lederer
April 3, 1952 – Aug. 5, 2022
MADISON - Mark W. Lederer, age 70, of Madison, passed away on Friday, Aug. 5, 2022, surrounded by his loving wife of 40 years, Lynn Levin, their daughter, Sarah Levin-Lederer and son-in-law, Sam Johnston. He was born on April 3, 1952, in Milwaukee, Wis., to William and Marjorie (Weis) Lederer. Mark was technically an only child, but his seven first cousins were like siblings in childhood and as adults. Mark also appreciated his relationships with Lynn's family including parents, siblings, in-laws, nieces and nephew. Most cherished during his life was time spent with family and friends.
While working in the Wisconsin State Senate, at UW Extension in the Chancellor's office and in the Local Government Center, Mark approached all his activities as a teacher, whether explaining UW Extension to legislators or helping local government officials navigate state and local regulations. In his final job before retiring, Mark taught UW students in the Department of Child and Family Studies about the direct impact of government policy on Wisconsin families. After retiring, Mark continued his commitment to community as a volunteer with the Arc of Dane County.
His death comes after 3-1/2 unexpectedly good years following a diagnosis of stage 4 lung cancer in 2018. Thanks to the Traynor and Bassetti teams at the UW Carbone Cancer Center and the Ahmed team at UW Neurosurgery for the quality of life and longevity during this time.
Due to the ongoing high level of COVID in Dane County, there will be no memorial gatherings. Gunderson Funeral Home is handling arrangements and Mark will be buried privately at Natural Path Sanctuary.
Please consider donations in Mark's name to Agrace Hospice and Supportive Care, Jodi Lou Lung Cancer Foundation or UW Carbone Cancer Center. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

Mark was special to The Arc-Dane County. He served as Secretary to our board of directors when I was Executive Director. He brought so much energy, focus & talent to the board. When Mark spoke, I listened! I miss him at our retired Arc monthly coffee R.I.P. Mark.
