Michael "Mike" Fassbender
June 11, 1954 - May 25, 2023
NORTH FREEDOM - Michael "Mike" Fassbender, age 68, passed away on May 25, 2023, in Naples, FL.
He was born in Baraboo, WI, on June 11, 1954, to Wilfred and Marcella (Miller) Fassbender. His family moved to Sun Prairie when Mike was still young, which is where he spent most of his life. Mike graduated from high school in 1972, and in 1975 he opened Fuzzy's Liquor in Sun Prairie, which he operated for 40 years. On October 22, 1977, Mike was united in marriage to the love of his life, Barb. In retirement, they relocated to the beautiful bluffs of North Freedom, a place that brought Mike and Barb considerable joy and peace.
Mike's first love was his family. He treasured spending time with "his girls," sons-in-law, and only granddaughter. He especially loved his cottage up north where he hosted his family and friends, enjoyed quiet scenery and nature, built enormous campfires, burned any extra brush and paper to be found, and tooled around the lake on his pontoon boat. Mike was a kind and compassionate man who treasured his lifelong friends, and put those he newly met at ease. He faced each day with optimism, joy, and gratitude.
Mike is survived by his wife, Barb; his children: Sarah (Chad) Novak and Rachel (Aaron) Glaza; and his granddaughter, Evelyn; his siblings: Donna (Steve) Villand, Marlene (Ron) Williamson, Marie (Terry) Adams, Russ (Pat) Fassbender, and Rose (Steve) Marsden; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and lifelong friends. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Marce and Fuzzy Fassbender; his niece, Julie Villand; and his brother, Stephen.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and care teams in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Florida, for their exceptional care and compassion.
Memorials can be made in Mike's honor to the Baraboo Hills Nature Conservancy or The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society.
A celebration of Mike's life will be Friday, June 30, 2023, from 11:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at the Baraboo Arts Center, 323 Water Street, Baraboo, WI.
