Parvin Nowrasteh Obituary

Parvin Malek Nowrasteh

December 28, 1929 - September 26, 2025

Parvin Nowrasteh, 95, of Madison, Wisc., died on September 26, 2025 at home in the company of her loving husband of 75 years, Daryush, and their eldest son, Saeed.

Known for her beauty, spirit, and love of life, she was cherished not only by her family, but many others whose lives she touched.

Born in Tehran, Iran, on December 28, 1929, Parvin came to the United States in 1950. She landed in Denver, Colo., where she graduated high school, later enrolling in the University of Colorado. On October 13, 1950, she wed Daryush Nowrasteh. They have two sons, Saeed, a Madison resident, and Cyrus, of Camarillo, Calif.

The family moved to Madison in 1964 when her husband, Daryush, commenced his graduate studies at the University of Wisconsin. Parvin worked as Chief Medical Technician for the Madison Red Cross eventually becoming Director of Medical Services. After eleven years with the Red Cross, she and her husband returned to Tehran where she worked for Baxter International. In 1979, after the Iranian revolution, they returned to Madison. She continued working for Baxter, traveling extensively throughout the world until her retirement in 1998.

For 20 years, they split their time between Las Vegas and Madison. She loved her many friends and extended family, and enjoyed watching tennis, traveling, and going to movies.

Parvin is survived by her husband, Daryush; children, Saeed and Cyrus (Betsy); grandchildren, Alexander (Ladan) and Mark (Betsy); great-grandchildren, Sammy, Rex, Clara, Vesper, and Isaac; along with many cousins and family. Yesterday

Am saddened by this news, which I and, I´m sure, the others who´ve posted here knew was coming. In the nearly half a century that Cyrus and I have known each other, I had two opportunities to be in the company of Mrs. Nowrasteh. The first might have been in Fall 1977, my first semester at USC, when Cyrus and I met there. While Mrs. Nowrasteh was in Los Angeles and visiting Cyrus, he was, for some reason, unable to accompany her while she had to go to the bank, across the street from the campus. He asked me if I could escort her; and while she and I were in the bank line, we had time to converse. I told Cyrus, later, that I was struck by her stylish appearance and manner. All that, of course, was mated to her warmth. Some years later, when Betsy and Cyrus were living in what must have been their first place---the upstairs one, in or near Silver Lake---they threw a party to which I and their other Los Angeles friends were invited, just so we could visit with Cyrus´s parents, who were in town. Again, I couldn´t help but be impressed by Mrs. Nowrasteh, who took time to converse with me while she and I were seated near each other in the living room. A lovely woman, a treasure to her family. My condolences to all.
