Raymond C. Paynter

October 4, 1930 - January 10, 2025

MINERAL POINT - Raymond C. Paynter, age 94, of Mineral Point, Wis., passed away peacefully on January 10, 2025, at the Mineral Point Health Services. He was born on October 4, 1930, in Waldwick, Wis., to Roy and Antoinette Paynter. He was a loving husband and father, devoted grandfather, and a dedicated worker who touched the lives of everyone around him. He met his future wife, Carol Hawksworth in 1961, they were married on August 11, 1962 in Winneconne, Wis. They settled in Mineral Point and never left.

Raymond proudly worked for John Deere in Dubuque, Iowa for 30 years, where his hard work and commitment made him a valued member of the team. After retiring from John Deere, he divided his time between various civic organizations. He was the commander of the Mineral Point American Legion, active in the local DAV, served various posts at the Mineral Point Masonic Lodge #1, served on the board of the Mineral Point Methodist church, was involved in the Mineral Point VFW, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Dodgeville, Wis.

Raymond is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carol Paynter; his two sons, Kevin (Jodi) and Mark (Pam); nine grandchildren, Merisa, Brooke, and Lucy Paynter; Kayla Bender, Chelsea (Joseph) Zastrow, Casey Paynter, Joshua (Melissa) Paynter, Sara (Christopher) Jagodzinski, Anthony (Tricia) Diprizio; and 13 great-grandchildren, Caleb, Evan, Bentley, Matteo, Giovanni, Luca, Zander, Asher, Phoenix, Peyton, Ryker, Mylah and Gideon and many other family members and friends who will remember him for his kind heart, generosity, and sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law; his brother, Roger; and twin brother, Ralph; his sister, Marilyn; brother-in-law, Calvin Hawksworth; and his great-granddaughter, Nora Jagodzinski.

A celebration of Raymond's life will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Mineral Point with a luncheon to follow. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025 from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:50 a.m. all at the First United Methodist Church. A Masonic Lodge Service will be held on Friday evening at 7 p.m. Military Graveside Rites will be accorded by the Mineral Point American Legion Post 170 at Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Mineral Point Masonic lodge scholarship fund, Mineral Point Methodist church or the charity of your choice in Raymond's name.

Raymond will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of love, dedication, and hard work will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
