Warren Leslie Knaub
August 12, 1941 – May 19, 2024
Life long - fly by the seat of his pants - doing things his way - kind of guy. Look out God here he comes!! Warren died unexpectedly on Sunday, May 19, 2024.
He was born on August 12, 1941, to Phyllis (Leslie) and Lee Knaub in Dodgeville, WI. Growing up he went to school in Cobb, Linden, Platteville and Mazomanie, WI, graduating from Mazomanie High School. He was really good in basketball - making all conference for three years.
He was drafted into the army in 1964 and was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, and then at Fort Riley, KS, where he was a part of the 101st Airborne. Warren was a member of the Cross Plains American Legion. In 2018, he and his brother, Dan, had the great experience of going on the Badger Honor Flight.
Over the years, after working in numerous places such as Rayovac, UW, Gisholt and Ma Bell Telephone Company, he took a job that had him traveling all over the U.S.
After three years of this traveling he came back to Cross Plains, where he worked with his brother, Dennis Prochaska (Big Potts), at Potts Inn for 27 years. Potts Inn became a landmark and well known "Roadhouse" which was named "One of the Best Roadhouses" by Car and Driver Magazine.
Warren was a collector of toys, big and small. He loved cars, scooters, motorcycles, tractors; anything with an engine and wheels, and loved to race them. He was a member of the Model T Club, the Corvair Club and the Hill and Valley Car Show in Cross Plains.
Warren loved to travel. After his retirement at 62, every fall he would take his travel van and motorcycle and visit friends and family all over the country from Canada, Alaska, Nova Scotia, The Keys, California, and Mexico. He made friends everywhere he went.
When he was home in Cross Plains, Warren loved being with his friends and enjoying his vehicles, swap meets and lots of BSing!! He Loved his early morning coffee group at Crossroads, his Friday night - CRS friends and the places he went on Saturday for Breakfast Brunch. If he was not with his friends, he loved to tinker, always trying to fix or restore something, or coming up with a "New Creation!!"
Warren will be missed by his sisters: Jackie Von Behren (Rod), Yvonne Bradley and Mary Jo Brabham; brothers: Thomas Prochaska (Jane) and Daniel Prochaska (Dorie); and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Warren was predeceased by his parents; baby sister, Lorraine; brother, Dennis (Potts) Prochaska; and niece, Marissa Roofe-VonBehren.
A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, August 10, 2024, at the American Legion in Cross Plains, WI.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to The American Legion Post 245, 2217 American Legion Dr., Cross Plains, WI, 53528, or the charity of your choice in Warren's memory.

I certainly remember Warren from our days in Mazo. He was an imposing figure wherever he went. A kind, gentle, big man with a great smile and a big heart. Another of the stalwarts from "Willie's Club" gone, but not forgotten. Thanks for your service, big guy! I shall never forget you. Go in peace.

Sorry for the mixed/confused word above. "Capricious", not in the sense of "uncontrollable", but in the sense of "spontaneously fun-loving, and great with a prank".

What a privilege and honor to have known a down to earth common man as Warren. Always had a gleam in his eye. Will miss the talks and your laugh ol' friend.
