Moran, William "Bill"
REEDSBURG - William "Bill" Moran, age 86, of Reedsburg, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2021, at his home following a long illness. He was born in Mauston, Wis., on Aug. 20, 1935. He was the son of Edward and Genevieve (Steiner) Moran. He married Sue Ann Hoeverman on Aug. 10, 1963. Bill graduated from La Crosse State College with a degree in physical education, and six years later he received his master's degree in guidance and counseling from Stout State College. Bill's life was guided by his love of playing sports and coaching, especially basketball. His coaching career spanned several decades at several different schools. The highlight of his coaching career was taking two Reedsburg High School basketball teams to the state tournament in 1971 and 1975 before there were divisions based on high school enrollment. He was inducted into the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2000 and Reedsburg Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008 with a career record of 253-166. In his role as a teacher, he especially enjoyed counseling his students into successful career pathways.
Bill is survived by his wife, Sue; sons, Daniel (Kathy) Moran and Michael (Kelly) Moran; five grandchildren, Jake, Katy, Olivia, Casey, and Ben Moran; a son-in-law, John "Jack" Ward; his siblings, Chuck Moran and Sara Griffin; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kelly Ward.
Memorials to a scholarship fund for Reedsburg High School seniors planning on majoring in education or to the Sacred Heart Church maintenance fund would be appreciated. Visitation will be at SACRED HEART CHURCH on Sunday, Oct. 24, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Private funeral services for immediate family will be held on Monday. We would especially like to thank the Agrace Hospice team for their support in Bill's final days which allowed him to stay at home. The Hoof Funeral Home is serving the family.

It was my privilege to play basketball for Bill at LaFarge when he was just beginning his coaching career. He always went above and beyond, to include driving us rural boys home after practice. I respected him immensely and followed his later successes from afar. I want his family to know that, though I have not lived in Wisconsin since the mid-60's, I have often reflected on how much Bill meant to me and others at LaFarge.

I am so sorry for your loss. I have fond memories of babysitting at the Moran house in the 1970's and of course of the basketball team at State in 1975. Mr. Moran was a very kind soul.
