Diana Westermann Obituary

Diana Lee Westermann

Sept. 24, 1940 – June 11, 2024

Our Savior Jesus Christ destroyed death and brings life and immortality to light through the Gospel. Let us remember with thanksgiving what God did through Diana Lee Westermann.

Diana Lee Deane was given life by her Creator on September 24, 1940 in Charleston, SC, a child of Harold Deane and Thelma McHone. She was an "Army brat" most of her life, living in Germany, NewFoundland, Texas, South Carolina, California, and Colorado. A large portion of her early life was in Ft. Collins, CO where both grandparents lived. In college she met Dale Thomas Westermann, Everest, KS, whom she married on June 9, 1963 in Ft. Collins, CO.

She attended and graduated from the American High School in Hamburg, Germany. She attended Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, CO and graduated with a BS in Microbiology in 1962. She later obtained a MS from Colorado State University in 1979 in Remedial Reading.

All her life she was very interested in helping children with learning disabilities. Diana and a co-worker, Chris Mannan, founded and started Acorn Learning Center in Twin Falls in 1985; later she accepted a Head Teacher position at Immanuel Lutheran School in Twin Falls. In 1999, Diana left that position to concentrate on helping individual students with learning disabilities from her home in Twin Falls.

Over time Diana was a member of Immanuel Lutheran, Twin Falls; Redeemer Lutheran, Kimberly; and Trinity Lutheran, Eden. She was also an active member of their LWMLs and Quilting groups. Upon attending Trinity Lutheran, she helped start and establish their quilting group. Diana's faith and church families were important parts of her earthly life.

She was very interested in genealogy and had active probes into the Deane, Westermann and Foster families. Her goal was not only to discover her family's ancestry but to learn the stories of their lives.

In the latter portion of her life she was infected by Myasthenia Gravis, an autoimmune disease. After suffering from Covid and developing other health complications, she died June 11, 2024 at home under hospice care.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. She is survived by her brother, Robert, and her husband, Dale Thomas, and three sons, Timothy Allen, Paul Henry and Scott Kevin, eight grandchildren, and other related family members.

Memorials in her name may be given to Trinity Lutheran Quilting Group, Eden, ID 83325 or to Camp Perkins, HC 64, Box 9384, Ketchum, ID 83340. A Memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Eden, ID at 2 pm on July 25, 2024, followed by a reception. The service will be broadcast live on Trinity's Facebook page.

The Lord gives and the Lord takes away. Blessed be the name of the Lord. We thank God our Father through Jesus Christ our Lord for our sister, Diana Lee.

I met Diana through Pastor Berthal, she was like a mother to me when I was raising my children. She helped anyone she could. I am truly indebted to her and Dale. My sincerest sympathy to Dale and all her sons.
