Gus Flowers Obituary

Gus Flowers

Feb. 23, 1941 - Nov. 27, 2023

JEROME - Gus Flowers passed away Monday, November 27, 2023 at his residence in Jerome, Idaho. Gus was the firstborn son of Gus, Sr. and Rachel Flowers born February 23, 1941, in Compton, Boone County Arkansas. They moved to Jerome Idaho where Gus attended grade school through high school.

Gus met the love of his life, Louise Hanby, in Albion, Idaho when they were both attending the Magic Valley Christian College. They were married in 1962 and had a life full of adventure together.

Although Gus was educated and received a teaching degree in History, he followed his passion for art and became a full-time sculptor in the 1970s. His artistic success took him worldwide where his art was procured by many a collector.

Gus, along with his family, enjoyed the outdoors and whenever possible they were out hunting, fishing, camping, or sitting around the campfire telling stories.

He was loved by all who met him, and he will be missed as a husband, father, grandfather, and great-papa, a best friend, mentor, helper, philanthropist, and down-to-earth good buddy.

He is preceded in death by his son, Steven Flowers, his brother, Brian Flowers and parents, Gus and Rachel (Petree) Flowers. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Louise (Hanby) Flowers; his son, David (Cyndi) Flowers; daughter, Cindy Flowers; grandchildren: Ryan Flowers, Teasha (Mark) Lewis, Shaylee Thiemann; great-grandchildren: Beaux McPherson, Phoenix Lewis and Maddox Lewis.

There will be a Celebration of Life for friends and family this coming spring. Please send an email to [email protected] to be placed on a mailing list for details.

I grew up playing in the Flowers house. I will always remember my interest in Gus´s art studio. I believe that he is the initial reason that I followed my love in art.
Louise, David, Cindy, my heart is with you all!
With all my love, Danielle Gamache

I met Gus when we were teens in the Magic Valley youth group of the Churches of Christ. He was a friendly and outgoing guy. My wife and I bought some of his metal art work in the late 60s. He was exceptionally talented. Kay and I send our prayers and condolences to his family.

So sorry to hear about Gus my old hunting and camping partner. We had many wonderful times together in the workplace and recreating. I think of him often as he gifted me two pieces of art and hang on my wall today. May he rest in peace and my heart goes out to his family.

Very sad news. Sending sincere condolences, Louise, on Gus´s passing. In addition to having been a remarkable artist (I was fortunate enough to have had one of his works), he was a sparkling personality with interests in an endless array of subjects. He was a very kind and thoughtful man and I will always remember wonderful times spent together. The world will feel an emptiness without Gus.
