John Kevin Wilson
November 11, 1961 - August 25, 2021
John Kevin Wilson of Twin Falls passed away after an extended illness on August 25, 2021. John was born November 11, 1961, in Ogden, Utah to John Harry Alexander and Mary Drina Arrington Wilson, the second of five sons. The family lived in Ogden and Salt Lake City until 1969 and then moved to Simi Valley, California where John graduated from Royal High School in 1980. From 1980 to 1982 John served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Australia Brisbane Mission of Northeast Australia.
Shortly after returning home from Australia John met the love of his life, Glorianna (Gloria) Acker and they married in Los Angeles in 1983. Initially, they made their home in Simi Valley and John began his career in law enforcement serving as a Deputy Sheriff in Ventura County. The couple soon welcomed two sons, Jared and Bryce, into their family. In 1992, John and Gloria relocated their family to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho for 18 months where John served as a Deputy Sheriff for Kootenai County before returning to Ventura County. In 1998 John and Gloria moved their family to the Twin Falls area where they raised their boys and John served as Police Officer in the community, earning the rank of Sergeant and then Lieutenant for the Twin Falls Police Department until his retirement in March of 2021.
John was a gifted athlete and a fan of many sports. He especially enjoyed playing football, basketball, softball, and golf and stayed active until his final illness. His passion for UCLA sports was well known to anyone who associated closely with John. For many years John volunteered as a coach for youth sports, not only for teams on which his sons participated but other teams including serving as an assistant coach for the Kimberly High School football team. John enjoyed serving as a mentor, whether it was youth sports or young law enforcement personnel.
John found fulfillment in his roles as husband, father, friend, police officer, UCLA fan, and coach. He also loved the sense of community he and Gloria found in the Twin Falls area which was enhanced by John's uncanny ability to relate to people and build trust through work ethic, humor, and empathy.
John enjoyed a lifetime of loving association with the extended family into which he was born and in the extended family into which he married. John enjoyed a wide circle of friends and associates in both the Simi Valley, California area and the Twin Falls, Idaho area.
There will be a memorial service at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 4, 2021, at Twin Falls Reformed Church, 1631 Grandview Dr. N., in Twin Falls. To leave a condolence you may visit www.whitereynoldschapel.com.

I was one of John's FTO's when he joined us at the Sheriff Dept. in Kootenai County Idaho. We had both "fled" Southern California law enforcement and he had plenty of stories to share which always included his sharp wit and amazing sense of humor. John was a great partner, an excellent cop, and a fine man. John will be missed by many. We know the world is a better place because of who he was and we are better having known him. God speed brother.

When I was a young crime reporter, Lt. Wilson was often a helpful and thoughtful source for me. I believe he helped my readers better understand and appreciate the work of TFPD. Now, I'm the president of the board of Voices Against Violence. I appreciate so much that Lt. Wilson participated in our Walk-A-Mile in Her Shoes events. His family, friends and colleagues are in my thoughts.

Very sorry to hear of John's passing. He was an 85-1 VSO Academy mate, and we played many years of basketball and football together. You will be sorely missed, John. We all loved you, and love you still, as you find your place in Heaven. R.I.P., Brother

John, you will be forever missed. The world has lost a beautiful soul. I cent even express how much I enjoyed working with you, how I enjoyed having you as my sergeant (at the time). You made us all laugh, every single day. You were a pleasure to work with and to learn from. You were respected and appreciated and everyone who worked under your supervision was better for it. The countless times you made me laugh, the way you watched over all of us.....it makes me so very sad to hear you are no longer "with us". May your family rest in peace, may YOU rest in peace. Please know that you meant so very much to those of us who were lucky enough to know you, to work with you, to learn from you. God bless your family and you. You will be forever missed.
