Leona Skaggs Obituary

Leona Rae Skaggs

October 29, 1936 - June 8, 2025

Leona Skaggs (Morris), 88, of Meridian, Idaho (formerly Pocatello, Idaho), peacefully passed away June 8, 2025. Leona was born October 29, 1936, the daughter of Florence Roberta (Hart) and Roy Leon Morris. Her family lived on a farm in Buhl, and she initially attended a two-room country school in the Northview community. Leona graduated from Buhl High School in 1954 and remained close to her classmates throughout her life.

On January 5, 1955, Leona married the love of her life, Jerry Skaggs. They moved to Pocatello and were blessed with two sons, Steve and Daniel. Leona enjoyed a 30-year career at Farmers Insurance Regional Office where she worked in the Commercial Department.

The First Presbyterian Church was the heart of Jerry and Leona's life. She served many terms as Deacon, Elder, and Treasurer. She was also an active participant with P.E.O. and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Leona was deeply religious, committed to helping others and providing assistance and care to those in need.

For more than 50 years, Leona and Jerry embarked on the annual "Oregon Coast Adventure." She treasured this time with her family. Leona and Jerry also loved to travel, "cruising" the world with their closest friends. She also loved reading, gardening, and studying the Bible.

Leona is survived by her sons, Steve (Pam), Daniel (Amy); four grandchildren, Katelyn (David), Mitchell (Haylee), Madeline (Reed), Naomi (Daniel); and great-grandchildren, Sadie Jae Skaggs and Miles Morris Grunsted. She is also survived by her brother, Richard Morris (Dorothy); sister, Ann Armitage, and their children and grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., June 27, 2025, at the First Christian Church in Buhl, followed by a Graveside service at West End Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowman Funeral Home, Garden City. The family suggests contributions be made to the First Presbyterian Camp Scholarship Fund.

I loved you more than I loved my labradoodle that we bought in Vegas all those years ago.

The Morris's were neighbor's of our family in the Northview Community North of Buhl. Although, Leona was a few years older than I, we all had a connection with the events held at the Northview Grange of which our parents were members of. Leona's Dad, Leon and my Dad, Ivan Bonar were good friends in this close knit farming community. My deepest sympathy to Leona's family, Brother Richard and Sister Ann.

I worked with Leona for many years at Farmers Insurance. She taught me so much and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know her. My prayers and sympathy with her family.

I remember Leona from back in the old First Presbyterian Church days - when it was on 7th and Lewis. She was an integral member of our church and will be missed!
