Michael Rainey Obituary

Michael Lynn Rainey

Michael Lynn Rainey passed away suddenly on March 4, 2025 while serving a part-time mission with his wife Paula in Neah Bay, WA. Mike was born on July 12, 1953 in Oakland, CA to Lynn and Betty Rainey.

Mike served a full-time mission in Texas 1972-74. Mike attended Brigham Young University and upon graduation worked for General Dynamics. He later went on to become a CFO for several successful businesses. He was also involved in volunteer work for many years.

Mike was a fun loving and kind hearted man. He lived an exciting life and loved to fish, sail, scuba dive, participate in local line dancing, and ride anything with two wheels. He enjoyed refurbishing and "upgrading" motorcycles. He was also passionate about vehicles with four wheels, and had owned several exotic cars over the years.

Mike was a top athlete on his high school swim team and was actively involved in athletics throughout his life. He coached swimming for the high school in Gooding, the Magic Valley Marlins in Twin Falls, and competed in the men's butterfly event at the Senior Olympics Games more than once.

Mike was married to Paula May on February 14, 2014 (yes, they were married on Valentine's Day). Mike will be remembered by his loving family as a man of faith, a wonderful husband, father, sibling and friend.

Mike is survived by his wife Paula, sisters Nikki and Terri, brothers Phil and Pat, and his eight children, Crystal, David, Diana, Tiffany, Ethan, Amelia, Marissa and Sam. He also has thirteen grandchildren: Andreas, Isabella, Talon, Cameron, Catalina, Kamaili, Caeley, David, Andrew, Jake, Sydney, Olivia and Harper, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Betty and Lynn and his infant son Matthew Joseph.

Mike & Paula have made Hagerman, ID their home since 2020. A memorial service will take place at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints located at 620 North State Street, Hagerman, ID on March 15, 2025.

It´s Mikes birthday. You know he is fully engaged on the other side of the veil. He´s a great example of following the Lord until it´s his time to part the veil. I´m happy for him but do miss him. Will see him soon enough, but my job is to keep his memory alive and follow his great example. Paula, we love and appreciate everything you both did for CSS and I.

We got to know Mike in Pomona ward young marrieds group while attending Cal Poly. There is always a special bonding when young adults with young families get to hang out. Also kept in touch while my father was living in Poway and the Raineys had moved there. I have always valued my friendship with Mike and it has been very satisfying to follow his life path via social media. I´m especially happy that he chose to serve God´s children to the very end. Much love from Brent Winn.

So sorry to hear about his passing. I am an old friend from high school and the Montclair ward and fondly remember all the pool parties at the Rainey's house. Heard the news from my brother Darrell. We have lived in Oregon since 77 and had I known he was in Idaho all these years I would have stopped by and visited when passing through to Utah.

Paula, be brave and cry all you need to. Ask for the grief support the funeral home can offer. Know you are loved. I am so sorry this happened. I love Mike and know you will miss him forever

Paula & Family, I'm so sorry for your loss. Though it's an awful shock isn't it wonderful that we have the gospel teachings to comfort us while we morn and adjust. You were such a cute couple here on earth and I'm sure you will be through eternity. Sending love and an outstretched arm should you need anything.
