William Shank Obituary

William Daniel Shank

April 6, 1950 - May 12, 2024

FILER - William "Bill" Daniel Shank, 74, passed away Sunday, May 12, 2024 after a courageous battle against esophageal cancer. Bill was born in Twin Falls and spent most of his life in Filer. He graduated from Filer High School, where he earned the moniker of Mr. Football of 1968.

He then turned that into a track and football scholarship at the College of Idaho.

He spent his career raising livestock and farming a myriad of crops. He said that farming was a great fit since it didn't require a dress code or drug tests.

Bill had lots of fun playing his favorite thing "The Golfing Game" as he called it. He got a hole-in-one on March 18, 2022 which thrilled him just as much as the birth of his children.

He said that people liked him because he made them feel smart. Bill's wit and humor was a big part of his personality. One of his many sayings was that people could get just as full on bad food as they could on good food.

He always tried to make someone's day a little bit better. He loved baseball, mainly the Seattle Mariners. He was an avid reader. It seemed like he always had a book in his hand.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Dan Shank and Florence Shank, sister, Marian (Bob) Hancock, and brother-in-law, Richard Reimer. He leaves behind his wife, of thirty-two years, Teresa, two children, Christy (Seth) Ault, and granddaughter Abby of Filer and Danny Shank of Boise, sister, Judy Reimer of Nebraska, sister, Linda (Dennis) Moon of Twin Falls, and brother, Randy (Tracee) of Filer.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Rock Creek Restaurant in Twin Falls on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. This will give family and friends a chance to say goodbye.

When I think of Bill I think of family reunions; cousins getting together, reminiscing, catching up, eating good food, and laughing. We should have had a lot more of them. Our sympathy and prayers go out to Teresa and the rest of the family, Verlin and Ella Gingerich

He was one in a million. Always ready for some bantering back & forth - a good joke (in his opinion) - and a good laugh. His kid´s friends & classmates loved to see him coming.....always lots of fun. Praying for peace in your hearts Teresa, Danny & Christy. He fought so hard for all of you the past months. May God wrap His loving arms around you during this difficult time & in the days to come.
