Alfred Snavley Obituary

Alfred (Al) E. Snavley Jr., 70, passed away on September 27, 2025, from complications of diabetes and heart failure. He was born in Radford, Virginia on March 8, 1955, as the eldest son of Alfred (Talley) and Shirley Snavley. After graduating from Liberty High School, Al worked for and later retired from the Heat and Frost Insulators Local 35 after 30 years of service. He married the former Ruth Stephenson on July 2, 1977 and together they shared 48 years of marriage. A history buff, Al enjoyed visiting historical sights including Williamsburg, Monticello, Mt. Vernon, Virginia, and Washington D.C. as well as many vacations to Myrtle Beach, Las Vegas, Dollywood, and the Grand Canyon. Many trips were enjoyed with his wife, daughter and son-in-law. Al also enjoyed the outdoors, tinkering around in his yard, planting trees, watching movies and the Cleveland Indians. He was a man of few words, but when he did have something to say, it was honest and witty. Al's one-liners will surely be repeated for many years to come. Besides his wife, Ruth, Al is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Eric Ensley, all of Canfield, Ohio; sister-in-law, Sara Snavley; nephew, Josh (Sandy) Snavley; great-nephew Mason, all of Ashley, Ohio and last but certainly not least his grandpuppies, Indiana Jean (Indy) and Eleanor Rigby (Ellie), who he adored. Besides his parents, Al was also preceded in death by grandparents; siblings, Jack Snavley, Debbie Snavley and his in-laws Bob and Grete Stephenson. Per Al's wishes, a private family service has been held. Contributions in Al's memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association at P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, Virginia, 22116-7023.
