Edward Donoghue Obituary

Edward "Ed" J. Donoghue, 91, (71) peacefully passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at the Hospice House with his loving family by his side. Ed was born on February 4, 1933, in Youngstown, the cherished son of the late Eugene J. and Anne L. Cavanaugh Donoghue. He spent his entire life in the Youngstown area. Ed was raised alongside his brother and closest companion, Eugene "Joe" Donoghue, and his beloved sisters, Diane Donoghue, Mary Lou Carillo, and Patricia Delluomo. A devout Catholic, Ed graduated from Ursuline High School in 1951. He was committed to his faith, often attending daily mass at St. Paul the Apostle Church in New Middletown or St. Dominic Church in Youngstown during his retirement years. Following high school, Ed enlisted in the United States Navy, serving from 1952 to 1956, including active duty in Japan. On November 24, 1956, he married his high school sweetheart and true love, Norma Jean Drummond. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, welcoming five children, eleven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Ed pursued higher education at Youngstown College while simultaneously working with the Youngstown Fire Department at Station #7 in 1963. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Youngstown State University in 1968. He then joined Packard Electric's Accounting Division, where he enjoyed a fulfilling career and formed lasting relationships. An avid outdoorsman, Ed was a member of the New Middletown Farmer and Sportsman's Club and the Mahoning County Duck Hunters and Conservation Club. He cherished fishing on Lake Erie aboard the family boat, "Leftovers II." Ed's passion for baseball, particularly the Cleveland Indians, was evident as he shared his love for the game with his family, often recounting memories of catching for his brother Joe and teaching his boys the same love of the game. Ed is survived by his children: Edward (Sharon) Donoghue Jr., Patrick "Lefty" (Dana) Donoghue, Daniel (Rhonda) Donoghue, and Timothy (Jody) Donoghue. He also leaves behind the pride and joy of his life, eleven grandchildren: Erin (Daniel) Hagerty, Brian, Brittany (Anthony) Chimento, Kaley, Kelly (Colie) Woods, Kirstin (Andrew) Kuczma, Nicholas, Breanne, Kyle, Connor, and Daniel and nine great-grandchildren Daniel, Aiden, and Anna Hagerty, Peyton and Riley Kuczma, Emma and Erin Woods, Jensen Donoghue, and Norma Chimento, as well as his sisters Mary Lou (Jesus) Carrillo and Patricia Delluomo, Sister- in-laws Patricia Gibson, Margaret Drummond, Patricia Courtney Drummond and brother in-law Michael (Kathy) Drummond and numerous nieces and nephews whom he cherished dearly. In addition to his wife Norma Jean, Ed was preceded in death by his infant daughter Mary Ann, his parents Eugene and Anne, his sister Diane, his brother Joe and his wife Muriel, his brother-in-law Ronald Delluomo and in laws, Norma's siblings, Ann George, Thomas Drummond, John Drummond, James Drummond, Paul Drummond, Joseph Drummond, Mariellen Werner, Faye Untch, Louise Datillo, and Donna Graham.
