Joseph Mordocco Obituary
Joseph Mordocco III
1970 – 2025
Canfield-Joseph Mordocco III, 55, affectionately known as "Joey," passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on Sunday, October 12, 2025.
Joey was born on May 29, 1970 in Youngstown, the son of Lenora Napolitano Mordocco and the late Joseph Mordocco Jr.
Joey was a proud graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School, where he served as the football team's manager from 1987-1989, and proudly helped the team achieve the title of State Champions in 1987. Throughout Joey's life, he had a deep passion and love for music, animals, cars, semi-trucks and people. He was a talent on the drums and had an extensive knowledge of their mechanics, brands and famous drummers throughout history. Joey's excitement for music led him to help behind the scenes with many local rock bands. He also enjoyed attending concerts and meeting band members.
For many years, Joey worked with horses at a boarding stable near his home. Those horses brought him unconditional love and he in turn cared for them with all his heart. Every summer, Joey enjoyed attending car shows with family members and especially enjoyed when he was able to spot a Nova.
He was a proud uncle and godfather to his nephew Anthony Mordocco. He loved watching him grow and loved attending his various activities through the years. Everyone who knew Joey knew that his infectious personality touched every single person he met. He was an angel on earth and all who knew him are better for it.
Joey will always be remembered by his mother, Lenora Mordocco; brother, Tony (Laurie) Mordocco; nephew and godson, Anthony Mordocco; his cousin Sam Valentini who was like a brother to him; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Mordocco Jr.; paternal grandparents, Joseph and Minnie Mordoccco; and maternal grandparents, Frank and Pauline Napolitano.
Family and friends may pay their respects from 10 to 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica in Youngstown, followed by an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave. in Boardman.
