MaryAnn Pliszka Obituary

MaryAnn Magyar Pliszka, 92, passed away suddenly on October 19, 2025. She was born on September 12, 1933, in Lorain, Ohio, where she was raised before moving to Kent and Newton Falls, where she and her husband raised their four children. Several years after her husband's passing, she moved to Howland Township. MaryAnn was known for her warm smile, kindness, and strong faith. Her life centered on family, faith, and community and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen and Mary Feher Magyar; her husband, Frank J. Pliszka, whom she married on June 23, 1956; and her brothers, Steve and Bill Magyar. She is survived by her children, Katherine Morrow (Attorney Charles Morrow), Andrew Pliszka, Andrea McKay (Honorable W. Wyatt McKay), and Douglas Pliszka; her grandchildren, Lauren Morrow, Robert McKay (Haley), Casey McKay, and Tyler Pliszka; her great-grandson, Walter McKay; and her brother, Joe Magyar. A graduate of Lorain High School, MaryAnn was a lifelong learner who enjoyed expanding her knowledge and sharing it with family and friends. She was proud of her Hungarian heritage and loved preparing traditional dishes such as chicken paprikash and palacsinta. Her homemade pies especially pecan, blueberry, and bumbleberry-were family favorites. A devout Catholic, MaryAnn lived her faith daily through kindness and generosity. She was known for sharing Dove chocolates with those who helped her-whether at the bank, a restaurant, the grocery store, or even with a stranger she felt could use a "chocolate hug." She was especially proud to renew her driver's license at age 92, allowing her to continue to live independently until her passing. A private family service was held with Rev. Zachary Coulter officiating. A committal service was held in St. Joseph Cemetery were MaryAnn was laid to rest next to her husband, Frank. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
