Norman B. Coupland Sr., 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday March 28, 2026 at his home. He was born in Youngstown, Ohio on February 10, 1944 the son of James T. and Fay Louise (Potter) Coupland and resided in this community all his life.
He was a 1963 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and retired as Captain in 1996 after 27 years of faithful service with the Niles Fire Department. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Warren, Radio Control Club and the Western Reserve Fish and Game Association in Niles.
He loved and cherished the time spent with his family. He enjoyed fishing, boating, flying his model air planes, and traveling to the Utah Bonneville salt flats to compete in the land speed races.
Norman is survived by his wife Kathleen “Kathy” O’Malley Coupland whom he married on March 18, 1964; three children Marie K. (Peter) Durig of Niles, James P. (Mikki) Coupland of Vienna, Jennifer L. (Larry) Williams of Howland; nine grandchildren, Brandon (Stacey) Durig, Madison Durig, Sarah Entler, Mae (Sam) Radich, Isabel Coupland, Lily Coupland, Erika Scharf, Tyler Williams, Kyle Williams; three great grandchildren, Brandon Durig II, Brielle Durig, Clara Radich; and brother, Gary R. (Jo) Coupland of Niles.
He was preceded in death by his son, Norman B. Coupland Jr. who died on March 22, 1996 and a brother, James W. Coupland.
Calling Hours will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday April 2, 2026 at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home in Niles. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Robin Woodberry officiating.
