Oscar ANDERSON Obituary

Oscar William Anderson, 83, of 1461 Butterfield Circle, Niles, Ohio departed this life Friday, July 25, 2025, at Saint Elizabeth Hospital following a brief illness. He is remembered for his strong legacy of faith, family, and business. Born on May 10, 1942, in Warren, Ohio, he was the son of Oscar Anderson Sr. and Dorothy Lee Dowdell Melvin. He graduated from Warren G. Harding in 1960 and attended Youngstown State University, majoring in business. Shortly after college, he entered the U.S. Army in 1964 and served honorably as a Sergeant E5 from 1964 to 1966. After returning from his service, he married his high school sweetheart, Theresa Johnson, on November 19, 1966. He was a trailblazer in the business world, becoming the first African American to own a clothing store, Vogue Menswear, in downtown Warren. He worked at General Motors Lordstown for 30 years while also nurturing his passion for sales. Throughout his career, he remained active in sales and pursued various entrepreneurial ventures. A biblical scholar and disciple of Christ, he led a life that exemplified II Timothy 2:15. "Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman who needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." A visionary dedicated to developing Christian male disciples, aimed to positively impact the Kingdom of God, their families, and the communities they served. He devoted himself to church service, with a teaching gift, leading the Men's Ministry and served as a deacon at New Jerusalem Fellowship Church, as well as at his current church, Bethel Church of God in Christ. He enjoyed reading, traveling with his family, and spending time with friends. A devoted husband, father, and friend. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Theresa Anderson; his children, Cedric Anderson and Cicely Anderson; his brother, John Anderson; three nieces, Dorothy Anderson, Mrs. Stacey (Rodrick) Mitchelle, and Hope Anderson. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Lamar Anderson, Donald Anderson and Charles Anderson. Funeral Services will be held Monday, August 4, 2025 at 12 noon at Greater Apostolic Faith Church, with Calling Hours from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Pineview Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements of comfort are entrusted to the Sterling-McCullough Williams Funeral Home.
